Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding advice

Hey momma's! My name is Taylor and I am a FTM to a 3 month old little boy. He is gaining weight well, has enough dirty and wet diapers during the day. He only feeds from one breast each time and is satisfied. He won't take the other breast even I offer to him. He eats about every 2-3 hrs. To maintain my supply, should I pump my other breast he doesn't feed on every time? Or what are you all doing? I am new to this and don't want to feel strapped to a pump if I go out and about. Please let me know!

  • Hand pumps or haakaas are an awesome option for when you’re on the go. Pumping on the opposite breast would be a great way to build up a freezer stash of that is something you want, but I wouldn’t do it every feed unless you want to continue doing it every feed. Sounds like things are going great! Keep up the great work!

  • Thanks for your response! So he only feeds every two to three hrs on one breast. So that means the other breast would go maybe 4 to five hrs without having milk removed. This is ok?
  • If he is growing properly and acting satiated then it is fine. If you want to build a stash you can pump, but there’s no need to if you don’t intend to give bottles.
