Baby crying when pooping

I’m having trouble with my baby crying while pooping. It’s like he’s crying because he’s constipated but his poop comes out soft and mushy (not loose like diarrhea but normal like he’s not constipated). I’m not sure if he’s crying because of gas pains but he does kick his legs like it’s hard for him to push the poop out. I used doctor google and I’m wondering if it could be infant dyschezia? Has anyone else struggled with this? If so how long did it last?

  • Talk to your pediatrician about it! I went down the same rabbit hole with Google, but it turned out it's totally normal and just because their digestive system is immature. All the strange feelings of digestion that we as adults are used to are totally new and strange to them. We don't think about it as painful anymore, but that's what it registers as for them. I'm not sure how long it lasts, my baby is 7 weeks old and we still see it, though less than before.

  • Our gal does this sometimes. I’ve focused on other techniques to help (bicycle kicks, “I love you” massage, colic hold, putting her tummy first on my propped up knees so she can use legs as support/gravity/pressure on tummy).
  • My baby is three weeks old and has been doing this as well. I’m pretty sure it’s what @00kim00 mentioned and that it’s common, but I’ll be bringing it up to my pediatrician when we see them next week. It only happens when he has gas/bowel movements and his BMs are still typical so it’s not as big of a concern for us yet! I hope your baby finds some comfort soon! 🤞🏼
  • Thank you guys for the input! It really helps to know I’m not alone in this! My baby is 9weeks almost 10 weeks now and he’s gotten so so much better. He hardly cries when he poops now and if he does it helps to carry him over my shoulder. I’ve tried the I love u massage but he hated it and bicycle kicks didn’t really help much. I guess it was just something he needed to learn!
