2nd Trimester

Baby went somewhat inactive after ultrasound

I went in two days ago for a second anatomy scan of my baby's heart (high risk for genetic heart defects) and the tech was incredibly rough with me. I was cramping early yesterday and had two braxton hicks contractions the night of the ultrasound. Baby went pretty inactive which is unusual for him. I'm 25 weeks 5 days and his movements are like clockwork every night. I didn't get that for two nights. He checked put fine today with my midwife and he's much more active today, he's back to his normal routine. Yay!

So, my question is, has anyone had experience with this kind of thing, where baby will just shy away from all interactions after a rough ultrasound and be okay?

I suspect he's shy or moved into a position where it wasn't too easy to feel the movements like I'm used to now. Would hate to admit my anxiety robbed me of experiencing his kicks yesterday because of the cramping.

Re: Baby went somewhat inactive after ultrasound

  • Your baby is fine - sometimes with ultrasound the tech needs to push in different angles and yes sometimes harder pressure to get what he/she needs for the doctor.  It's not being rough, it's getting the pictures needed.
There is still so much room that there is a chance that baby moved and you may not have felt that movement from baby due to positioning.

  • No, it was definitely rough handling, since there was another tech that came in and did the same thing with a much lighter hand.
