Inhaled toxic fumes

While at work this afternoon I was helping my client clean his tub I used clr mold and mildew spray and then I felt light headed. The client informed me he had sprayed down the tub with a cleaner that had bleach in it prior. This creates a chlorine type gas. Immediately went outside and stayed while it aired out. I am 17 weeks pregnant and feel so stupid I wasn’t more careful. Has anyone experienced this? I was in the bathroom for around 2 mins. I am so stressed I could have caused my baby damage. Safe to say I’ve decided to pass along these chores to other staff members from now on. But I can’t shake this anxiety

Re: Inhaled toxic fumes

  • The Mother to Baby organization provides evidence-based information about exposures during pregnancy and the chances it would affect your baby (and if so, how). Their information on household cleaners can be found here:https://mothertobaby.org/baby-blog/whats-the-dirt-on-household-cleaners-when-pregnant/

Part of their article states "Generally, inhalation won’t allow for much absorption of these kinds of compounds into your blood. When they do get into your blood from inhaling them, they typically don’t reach the developing baby or get into your breastmilk in any meaningful quantity."

Basically, don't worry, even if you were exposed for much longer than 2 minutes!
