Gestational diabetes

Hello! I just received my glucose test results and they came back high. Has anyone else here experienced high glucose levels or gestational diabetes? FTM and kind of bummed to find this out. What changes to diet did you make, and any other actions I can take to help improve this? Thanks!

Re: Gestational diabetes

  • I have been following a GD diet since 9 weeks, and sticking myself 4x a day. I try to limit my carbs, especially at dinner time, as that seems to be my highest reading of the day.

  • @julesmacias_22 How high were your numbers? If they're just over the acceptable range, you might pass the 3-hour test with no need to make dietary changes.
  • @bob444 it sounds like you care about this friend and value her friendship. With that in mind, it’s important to be a friend first and foremost, and leave her medical care to herself and her health care providers. Trust that she has a team that is up to date on the latest research and guidance, and will care for her accordingly. If she hasn’t asked for your or your wife’s advice in this particular matter, assume she is doing what she needs to do and has it under control. Pregnancy is a sensitive enough time without people offering you unsolicited advice, especially regarding matters in which they might not be educated.
  • @julesmacias_22 I had GD with my son and started GD management with this pregnancy early on. With my son: I just did a low carb diet but I cheated sometimes, leading to some high sugars. Towards the end the doctor wanted me to start Metformin but I only had two weeks left so I declined. He was fine, wt was 6lbs 14oz at 41wks, healthy baby boy. With this pregnancy(twins) I agreed to take the Metformin as prescribed and do a low carb diet to manage sugars. So far babies are growing as expected. I can try to answer any questions/help with resources but definitely try to work with your doctors on this. I used an app called Mealime to find low carb recipes.

Hello! This is my first time commenting. I had my test done and my numbers came back 153. I am waiting to know when I will take the longer test. It might not be until my next appointment in a couple of weeks. I’m not sure what I should be doing now so I have decreased sugar and carbs. I figured if it was more urgent someone would have called me, but I’m an American living in Spain and I’m not as familiar with the healthcare system works here.

Also I just tried to change my username, sorry if it’s still knottie!
  • @knottie7bfde8359871d722 I'm in the United States and my provider left me a message in my hospital system's online portal telling me to schedule my 3-hour test. I'm not sure if different countries have different blood sugar limits, though. It's probably best to call and ask.
  • I just got the results of my 3-hour test and the second hour number is 160, the cutoff is 155. All the rest are normal. I think that means I passed, but I'm not sure how they do it in Spain. It's kind of strange that the second number was high. It only decreased by 5 in the hour I waited. Not sure what that means! I have my next appointment a week from Monday, so I guess I will have to wait for that to find out.
  • @seahawkinspain My two-hour number was the only one where I went over, too, and my provider said that meant I passed. I guess for me my glucose levels plateau around that time and then continue to drop normally. That would explain why I failed my first one-hour test, since I had lunch about two hours before!
  • @hestia-is-wearie that explains a lot! I was wondering why it might do that.
