Reading Behind HELP

Hello all!

This is our first pregnancy. All help/comments/experiences welcomes! My LMP was Dec 20th and ovulated on Jan 6th, which would make me around 8 weeks. Got a positive pregnancy test January 18th. When we went to the doctor this past Monday, I was reading around 5.5 weeks.

This had me worried. I track my period (31 day cycle) and ovulation like clockwork. I had a feeling that the doctore is preparing me for any outcome.

She sent me for bloodwork for every other day. On Tuesday my HCG was 13,900 and 40 hours later it was arouns 15,800. It went up around 2,000 in 40 hours. I keep reading that once you hit 10,000 it could take 96 hours for it to double.

We go back to the doctor in March 1st to see if there is any progress.

My question is, has this happened to anyone before? Reading earlier then expected? HCG not doubling every other day? Thank you.

Re: Reading Behind HELP

  • When I measured behind I unfortunately did not have a good outcome. I measured 6w at 8w. At 9w no further growth and no heartbeat. I ended up having a miscarriage.

Are you scheduled for a follow up ultrasound?

  • How do you know when you ovulated??? Did you temp? Use opk's? Just curious. Best wishes.
  • I am so sorry this happened. Thank you for sharing your experience.
  • Yes, I ovulated on January 7th. I did use OPK which matched perfectly with the app. I got a call from the doctor today. She said although the numbers went up 2,000 in 40 hours, with the numbers being over 10,000 they do not have to double. She did start me in progesterone. I go back March 1st. Hoping for growth 💓
  • That sounds like hopeful news! One thing about OPKs is that sometimes you can get two LH surges, even though you only ovulate once (the last surge). It's possible the Jan 7 was a false alarm, and if you had continued testing you might have seen another surge later. It doesn't happen super frequently for me, but in the 5ish years I tracked, I had it happen probably 2-4 times. Continuing to test for ovulation or combining it with BBT can help you see when it happens. So it's possible everything is fine and you just had a false start with ovulating that month. I'm glad your doctor is being proactive and getting you on progesterone though, just in case. Good luck!
