Breast Pump Recommendations

Looking for breast pump recommendations.  10 years ago I had a Ameda Purely yours, and it worked great.  7 years ago I got another Ameda Purely yours and it worked great.  This time around I can’t find it and I know a lot has probably changed in the world of breast pumps.  So tell me your favorites and ones to stay away from.

Thanks.

Re: Breast Pump Recommendations

  • I have been hearing a lot of good things about Momcozy, it's a rechargeable breast pump that fits right into your bra so it can be totally hands free. This is my first baby so I haven't tried it (or any pumps) but plan to try this one

  • i used a Medela 7 years ago but am also looking for newer and improved pumps!!!
  • I love the Ameda mya joy. It's small, portable, and quiet. I got a second one when I returned to work to make things easier on myself. I will be using it again for my 2nd baby.
  • Has anyone used the Medela Freestyle Hands-free pump?
  • Thanks for the info.  I’ll check it out.  Did you find that it was powerful enough?

  • Hi everyone! I am a new mom too. It’s my first one so I don’t know too much but keep seeing an add for elvie. Seems pricey but apparently it’s one of the best with Willow… from what I read online… elvie plus as cord but still hand free while another elvie is totally cordless… elvie plus is cheaper and is « hospital grade » or something like that… I think it means it pump better… I feel I will go with this one … but just from my small research and add I got on my phone. Happy to read about people who have tried it! I don’t even know if we need a pump right from the beginning or if we can wait a bit before buying one …
  • I had an Ameda my first go around, and it was ok- it did the job. My second pregnancy I had a spectra, and it was so nice. It had many different settings and lots of adjustability. You can get a battery powered one so you don’t always need a plug! I loved it
  • Hi everyone! I was originally looking at wearable pumps (Elvie, Willow, Medela) but after doing some research and talking to my OB they said it’s not good for your primary pump because it doesn’t full express your breast and can reduce milk production?
So I am looking for other options! I would love recommendations
  • What breast pump did you decide to go with? I am still needing to order mine.

  • I heard the same about the wearable pumps not emptying the breast.  I’m going to get the spectra through insurance…then if I feel strongly I may buy a wearable down the road.  But having a break to sit down and pump might be okay with me too.  The hospital will have some too if you need it in the hospital.  I think with my first I did start pumping once a day pretty soon after he was born to get my supply up and start a freezer stash.
  • austinjl which Spectra did you decide to go with?  I have been doing research and am leading towards either:

    Spectra 1 +
    Spectra Synergy Gold
    Spectra Synergy Gold Portable

  • I’m thinking S1 or S2.  S2 is completely free with my insurance but for S2 I’d have to pay a portion.
