Low amniotic fluid and breach

I had my growth ultrasound for week 36. Baby is weighing 6 pounds and 2 oz, which I thought was great because my doctor and I were worried about her having low weight. During the ultrasound, the technician asked if I was leaking amniotic fluid, I told her I thought I was last week and to labor and delivery to get checked. My nurse on call tested me and I was not leaking. Because of that I thought of nothing. Once my ultrasound was done, I went straight to my obgyn. I usually use the restroom and wait for my appointment, my doctor took me instantly after I used the bathroom. My doctor typically sees me after the nurse checks me, but that didn't happen. My doctor did every measurement and told me some news. She said I was very low in amniotic fluid and the ultrasound show my little one is breached. She told me that I may need to get procedure done to turn her, depending on my amniotic fluid. If my fluid is lower, she will deliver the baby c-section without turning her. I am really scared reading off of Google so I came here to ask, has anyone ever had low amniotic and a breach baby, yet delivered a healthy baby to full term?

Re: Low amniotic fluid and breach

  • Hi knottie! I’m sorry, most of the crew here has moved onto a private Facebook group. Those few of us left won’t be much help because I’ve never experienced this and the others are first time moms themselves.

My best advice is to stop googling and talk to your OB about your fears and concerns so you get accurate information about your particular case. I’m assuming you have a repeat appointment to check fluid and position? One step at a time. I know, easier said than done.

If you post this to the third trimester board you may get some more responses since there’s probably more traffic there. Good luck! I hope everything turns out ok, and remember, a 36 week baby has super good outcomes, and hopefully you make it longer than that!

  • I have experienced low amniotic fluid twice due to insufficient placenta. The first time I had an induction at 40 weeks and that's when we discovered she had no amniotic fluid. The second time we had several ultrasounds, and got induced at 39 weeks when the fluid went from 5cm to 2cm. This time I probably getting induced at 37 weeks for the same thing. I have never had a breech baby but I would do the procedure to get the baby turned if this one ends up breech.
