Bilobed placenta

Has anyone had any experience with having a bilobed placenta with velamentous cord insertion? Found out I have that at my anatomy scan yesterday and just looking for people who may have experienced it in previous pregnancies.

Re: Bilobed placenta

  • Hi! I have a bilobed placenta (main one is anterior and there is a posterior lobe). Not a velamentous cord insertion but a marginal cord insertion. They also discovered mine at my anatomy scan. I’m guessing you’ll probably meet with maternal and fetal medicine if you haven’t already just so they can monitor things more closely. I’m being admitted for inpatient monitoring but that’s due to vasa previa since the vessels connecting the 2 lobes are fetal vessels near the opening to the cervix. Hopefully you won’t have to do that but they’ll probably want to monitor you pretty closely. I’m still going through the process so I don’t have much advice at this point but I’ll be thinking of you!
