Light pink discharge/spotting after transvaginal ultrasound

Hello everyone! I am currently 5W1D and had a transvaginal ultrasound yesterday (I am high risk which is why the early scan). They found what they believe to be the gestational sac and I go back in another week to follow up with another one. This afternoon, about 24 hours, after the ultrasound I started to have some very light pink discharge/spotting when wiping after the bathroom. It’s not a lot but definitely noticeable. I know that everything at this stage is a waiting game but have any of you had similar experiences with this happening? I had the same discharge about 4 days ago that lasted a few hours and the doctor wasn’t concerned. I’m sure it’s normal, but the unknown is scary so if anybody has had a similar experience I’d love to hear it. Thanks!

Your cervix is very sensitive right now - and a transvaginal ultrasound probe isn’t gentle! The spotting is likely linked to the probe and your sensitive cervix.

  • Expect it, also if you have sex. Your cervix is very sensitive and when irritated, it can cause spotting.
  • Normal, I spotted for days after my TV scan
