Re: Product Spotlight: Baby Monitors

  • So stm but 8 year age gap, my first we just had an audio but this time I am looking for a video with both parent unit and app availability.

The parent unit I don’t want to have to connect to wifi - as we travel lots and some places like the cottage that isn’t an option.

I want the app as well so if I am outside with dog, horses or older sister I am not as worried about range to monitor. I will never be fat but for peace of mind. Also if baby is being watched I would like to be able to check in.

I am researching now, but still haven’t found anything that has jumped out so if you have any suggestions please let me know!

What monitor do you have? Nanit
Do you have an audio or video monitor? Video
Any features you really like? I like that it's on my phone so that it's not a separate device to keep up with. It's easy for both me and my husband to use. The travel stand is great for vacation.

    Any features you don't like?
Not that I can think of. Maybe that it's on the pricier side, but that's not really a feature.

    Features you wished it had?
I used to wish it had the ability to do dual screens for two kids, but they just added this! So, we'll grab a second camera for this LO. I also hated I couldn't see her if I closed out of the Nanit app (you can hear, but not see), but they just recently changed that as well and added a pop out screen. I like that they're continuously upgrading the features.

I had a video monitor with my second baby and it lasted 8 years. Which is kinda crazy. I tried to replace it with the same brand and they weren’t selling anything but refurbished and I didn’t want to go that route. So I researched baby monitors like crazy. I ended up going with the Infant Optics and I haven’t been disappointed. I tried buying a cheaper one prior to that and it didn’t last more than a few weeks. A friend of mine buys the cheap ones and has to replace them every few months. I’m going on a year with the Infant Optics and it’s still working like it’s brand new. Great picture, sound, etc. I highly recommend it.

Edit to add: sorry I didn’t do the question format. 🤦🏻‍♀️ This one isn’t connected to the WiFi. I prefer that because I have had issues with my WiFi in the past and I don’t want the hassle of dealing with glitches. I just want to plug it up and go.
  • I also love infant optics and will keep using it with this baby. I think we can add a separate camera and keep the same monitor.  We bring it for travel too. It’s not an app but I prefer it because it’s not Wi-Fi dependent and I get nervous about people hacking into apps. But @estadt I do wish I didn’t have to worry about range and could like take a run around the block. I can get almost to the end of my back yard with our infant optics
  • @ccmrc143 we live on 43 acres and when my 8 year old was a baby I had our dog that has now passed run all the way to the far end of the property we are surrounded by bush and it was hunting season and could hear people hunting so in my orange darted after her to make sure she was safe. Thankfully she slept through me being that far but I was terrified of her waking while I was that far and not knowing. So why I want something I could have both a parent unit and a app
  • Another thing about the infant optics. I have a different lens in the nursery vs my older kids. It’s zoomed in and has a crystal clear picture. So the monitor can be across the room but I can still see baby perfectly in his crib.
  • Another Infant Optics here. We still use that for my daughter so it's 3.5 years old and the camera is great. (We actually bought a second camera to stay at my parents' house, since they take my daughter once a week and it's just easier to leave both cameras set up and send the parent unit over with her. That unit battery started getting a little funky about six months ago, so it doesn't hold a charge all that well anymore, but we just keep it plugged in. I do wish it had the ability to split screen instead of just scanning back and forth between two cameras, though, so I might look for something that does that. But we've been really pleased with it overall.
