NIPT Test

So I got my blood drawn at 10w3d and I got my results back and we’re having our 3rd Girl. I was reading up on it and it said you should have a fetal fraction of over 10%. I checked my test results and my fetal fraction was 5.9%. Is there a chance I have inaccurate results because my fetal fraction wasn’t over 10% or because I was just 10 weeks pregnant?

  • What the heck I’ve gone in to try and change it twice and it’s not changing!
  • Yeah, you can’t change a post after you post it. Geeze, step away from the new discussion button. How about you look at the very top of the board for the thread that is titled MEGA QUESTIONS THREAD. Open it up and post your question. Everyone on this board is in agreement about the organization and keeping one off posts off the board.
  • Sometimes navigating the website is hard. Anytime you make a thread it can’t be deleted or changed unless a bump admin does it. Which is fine. The point of the organization is to keep things like this from cluttering the board. It really does make it hard to find the main threads we discuss things on. The most used threads are pinned at the top so they don’t get lost. Then you will notice we have weekly discussion threads under those. I hope this helps you navigate the board. Sorry I was rude in my last comment. I forget that this app is hard to navigate for people who are new.
  • @mtz071412 no worries, I had a difficult time getting my name to change at first too. All message board are different and have different rules. Welcome to the board and I hope your pregnancy is going well <3
  • The short answer is it is not a guarantee but NIPT is highly accurate for determining sex, about 98%. Sex will start to differentiate at around 7 weeks but your baby has either XX or XY chromosomes since conception so your gestation shouldn’t matter
  • Does anyone know if you deny seeing the sex of the baby on the blood test, if it would pop up on the website when checking for results? I’m scared to check and then see the sex when we don’t want to know.
  • @lmn823 yes you’re able to see the results online, my test was done through labcorp and I have an account so I received a notification that my results for all my blood work were available and I was able to see the gender when I scrolled further down to the genetic testing result section.
  • Yeah I was able to see my results. So I had my test taken at 10w3d and then read online your fetal fraction rate should be 10%-15% for gender and mine was only at a 5.9%. So I’m wondering if it could be inaccurate because of that? Just trying to figure it out before we tell everyone!! I’m 13 weeks as of today.
  • @mtz071412I’m not sure as I haven’t experienced that low fraction number range, but with my first pregnancy the test showed male and I cannot recall the fetal fraction then and I indeed have a 2 year old son 💙 Then this pregnancy I got my blood drawn at 10 weeks and 4 days and got the results that I’m having another boy. My fetal fraction said 10%. So given we both had our blood drawn around the same time I would guess that it’s accurate 😊
  • No, the fetal fraction doesn’t need to be 10-15% to be accurate. If the lab did not feel confident about the fetal fraction, they wouldn’t even report results. Also, NIPT is still screening, not 100% diagnostic. The only way to know 100% is amnio or CVS.
