NIPT for Gender Incorrect

I was curious to find out if anyone else experienced this if they did the NIPT testing, I know this isn’t super common but just curious.
Our NIPT indicated a boy, however at anatomy scan baby is 1000% a healthy growing girl.
Thanks!

Yeah, no. I would say your NIPT is correct. Most companies providing NIPT say there's only a fraction of a percent chance the gender result is incorrect. I'm sure it's even lower for a boy determination since there's no other way for Y chromosomes to be in your blood. My anatomy scan with my oldest said girl and he is definitely a boy, they're infinitely less accurate.

  • @perfectlypopeyus seriously, your NIPT was wrong. My nipt results say boy but I can’t wrap my head around it yet. Anatomy scan is Friday and I’ve been joking about my results being wrong since I got them lol. I’ll let you know what happens.
  • Yeah I had to get additional higher level scans and all doctors confirmed it was a healthy normal girl! Wild! Good luck with yours!
  • That is crazy!  I have 3 boys and 1 girl and really was hoping for my daughter to get a sister.
  • @perfectlypopeyus how far along we’re you when you had your blood drawn for NIPT, and how far along we’re you at anatomy scan?  I’m just curious.
  • Wow! That’s interesting!
  • Is there any way for a NIPT sample to get contaminated like with sneak peek blood draws? That's the only way I can think of that happening. I've always heard a false boy result is possible but a false girl result is not as far as those blood draws but I'm no expert. It's possible for you to go to the end of your pregnancy without anyone detecting a penis because it happened to a friend of mine.
  • @kalesix3 agreed, I had multiple (high level, to check for genetic kidney disease) scans with my first that all said girl and he is not. The only guaranteed way to know for sure is for your baby to be born and see their genitals. It's also possible your baby is some degree of intersex, and they wouldn't be able to tell that from any blood test during pregnancy or ultrasound.
  • @thescarletmom yes %100 to all of that. It definitely could be an intersex situation or just semi incompetent ultrasound techs.
  • I have my anatomy scan tomorrow! If you don’t mind me asking where did you get your NIPT done? I did panorama at life labs in Ontario. I’m soo nervous after reading this! I’ve bought so much boy stuff lol!
  • @lvictoriam I can all but 1000% guarantee this promise to you, your baby is a boy. OPs baby is also almost certainly a boy. A gentle reminder that the NIPT is over 99% accurate, and ultrasounds are not. It is just statistically so unlikely for your blood test to be incorrect, especially if done after 8 weeks pregnant. You don't need to worry!
