Slow Rising HCG Concerns at 5 weeks

Hi everyone,

This is my first pregnancy, so naturally I'm very nervous. I'm 5 weeks pregnant and, at one point, I was experiencing a bunch of symptoms. Then about four days ago almost all of them either decreased in severity or disappeared, so I requested blood work. My first result was 2,426. My second was 3,530, which is only a 45% increase in 48 hours. I've read that a 35% increase or higher is okay, but I've also read that there are women who have miscarried when their numbers didn't double, even if they were increasing beyond the 35% mark. Has anyone been in a similar situation, or know other moms who have experienced the same and still had a healthy pregnancy? Thanks for your help!

The mark of a healthy, progressing PG is that your HCG should double every 48 hours, and that is what's used as a benchmark until somewhere around week 7 when you can start seeing/tracking the heartbeat (and somewhere in there HCG tapers to a steady level).  If you are not having your HCG levels double every 48 hours, that indicates a PG that is not progressing as 'normal.'  You could just have slow rising HCG, which sometimes still 'catches up' and is fine, but in most cases this is not a good sign.  I'd call your doctor and discuss with them, as well as wait and see what your next HCG looks like. (although be warned, if you're headed toward MC, your doctor can do NOTHING to help save your baby.)

October 2015 - 1st MC.  7-8 weeks along. Suspected molar PG, but luckily just a MMC.

    June 2016 - 2nd MC: 4-5 weeks CP

    September 2016 - 3rd MC: 4-5 weeks CP

RE 1: ALL the testing - 'unexplained'  "Yinz can do IVF or try on your own"

    Feb 2017 - 4th MC: 6 weeks

RE 2: More tests. Still 'unexplained.'  Called fat for an entire hour-long appointment, cried a lot

    Feb 2019 - 5th MC: 6-7 weeks

    IUD - March 2019-March 2023

RE 3:  Repeat all the tests. Hoping to try IVF.
