Weekly Randoms Jan 16

3am sleepless night, so why not get these ready for the week 🫠

Re: Weekly Randoms Jan 16

  • @amccurls, the sleepless/restless nights have definitely been something. I’ve even tried going to bed later/earlier and it doesn’t seem to help lol

  • @itsjess627 same! I’m almost ready for sleepless nights with baby because I know I’ll be so exhausted I’ll just fall right back asleep 🤣
  • I wake up almost every morning super early and just can't get back to sleep. It's a little better since I started taking a really good B vitamin in the morning.
  • Extreme random - what do y’all eat for breakfast? I find it the hardest to make something healthy for breakfast.

@amccurls today I had Greek yogurt with banana and a really low sugar granola, chia seeds and nuts. Some days I have protein smoothies. If I could, I would eat avacado toast with egg. Those are some of my healthier ideas at least. Sometimes I'm lazy and I eat a bowl of "healthier" cereal and a "healthier" homemade cookie.
  • Funny, I find lunch to be the hardest meal to make. Breakfast I do eggs, veggies (usually spinach), and toast. Or I’ll occasionally do a bowl of cereal or oatmeal.
  • @seeds_of_joy @itsjess627 I think my problem is none of that fills me up 😩 I do like to do avocado toast with egg and bacon, but that doesn’t last long either. I guess I just need to eat a snack shortly after breakfast. Thanks ladies!
  • @amccurls do more eggs, toast, bacon 😆 Throw in some fruit too...and dark chocolate.
  • @amccurls Cheerios were a big early second trimester craving, so since then it’s been Cheerios topped with fruit (whichever berries look good plus usually a banana and maybe more fruit on the side if I’m still hungry) and a latte. So I definitely should have more protein, but it’s become a pretty comfortable routine now and I’m just rolling with it. Fortunately, I’m not at all sensitive to dairy, or this would absolutely not work for me.
  • @amccurls I had been eating cereal with milk and fruit or a bagel and peanut butter, but it never filled me up for more than an hour. My go-to now is an omelet with cheese, and fruit and half a bagel with peanut butter. Much more satiating.
  • So tired. Went to sleep at 1 am and woke up at 5am. Trying to fit in a nap to feel more functional. On the plus side, my husband and I made more progress with the nursery last night and this morning. As for breakfast, I’ve been eating eggs or sausage patries with a non starchy veggie like cucumbers, grape tomatoes, avocados, or bell peppers. My most favorite recent reiteration is making an egg salad and eating them with cucumber slices for breakfast or a snack.
  • I agree that lunch is always harder for me. For breakfast, I typically eat a mini bagel with cream cheese or cereal. I never ate cereal before I was pregnant. Lol. If I have more time, I’ll cook sausage or bacon. I like to have fruit too, but the fruit has looked so crappy for so long. I finally found some fresh cherries and grapes.

As for sleepless nights, I typically wake up around 1am or 2am. Then, my cat wakes me up around 4:30am. After that, it takes a while for me to fall back asleep. My husband will wake up and go sleep with the cat so that I can get some sleep. 🤣

The cat used to sleep through the full night. Since we’ve put the crib in our room, she’ll start crying and will purposely get in the crib to get our attention so we have to kick her out of the room most nights. I’m just hoping that she won’t be that interested in the baby and will leave the crib alone when he’s here, but I think she’ll have to build up some trust again before we let her sleep in our room with a baby.
  • Thank you everyone for your breakfast ideas!

As far as lunch, I usually try to have enough leftovers from dinner and eat that. If not, I do a peanut butter banana sandwich, some more fruit or veggie, and some puff corn has been my go to lately.

@karbaud hopefully she’ll be sweet with the baby!
  • I wish I would have thought of this activity a lot earlier haha

  • @lucygracelaluz2020  😂😂😂 that looks so fun!
  • @lucygracelaluz2020 I love it! That’s better then having my daughter stick them all over my face the other day 😂
  • 15 days!!!! @karbaud such a cute basket too
  • Anyone else feeling like they're just ready to retire from life and wait until Baby is born?
  • @seeds_of_joy yes! I literally fell asleep at my desk today 😅 and my (non-American) coworkers were like, you should not be trying to work anymore. Which makes me feel a lot better about my lack of regular-work productivity lately 😂.

Also I got the OK to collect colostrum at my appointment today. I got Haakaa silicone collectors, and I’ve definitely been producing some colostrum, but have any of you more experienced moms done it before and have any recommendations that worked well for you (like I’ve heard right after a warm bath or shower can be a little more productive or easier)? I’m not super concerned about it, because having to supplement with formula doesn’t bother me too much and half my goal is honestly to trigger some movement toward labor now that I’m full term anyway while generating a small stash just in case.

@karbaud The thank you basket you made is beautiful! I’m sure the hospital staff will be so appreciative of your thoughtfulness.

@seeds_of_joy Literally the day I reached the 34 week mark, it was the first time I started to feel a bit “done” with being pregnant with all of the discomforts I’m feeling.
  • @fertile-turtle I think your non-american coworkers are onto something! I've never heard of colostrum collecting!! Is that something more mainstream the last few years? I have pumped my colostrum to get a couple wonky labors moving and it helped but I never had an issue with breastfeeding or getting a baby started. In fact I had so much oversupply that a baby showed up on my porch one time because her mom was sick and she wanted in on it. True story. 😆

@ttc3y Yes! It was around 34 weeks when I decided I'm done night driving, driving long distances, picking up dropped things off the ground, cleaning up puke, staying up as late as my kids, making complicated meals, etc. It's not so much being done with pregnancy for me but being done with all the rest.
  • @fertile-turtle I’ve never heard of collecting colostrum either. However, I leak like crazy after a shower. I’ve had to change my shirt a few times. And like @seeds_of_joy I had a huge oversupply as well. Apparently runs in the family according to my grandma 🤷🏻‍♀️

and yes!!! to the “being done”
I’m so tired. Dishes and laundry have taken a back seat on my list of priorities. I’m not a video games person but I’ve been obsessed with my sons new game Pikmin 3. So we’ve been doing a lot of that lately.
  • @fertile-turtle I have definitely seen colostrum collecting on the social media feeds and groups that I’m on. Not sure if it is a non-American thing either although, there are other women on the feeds from the UK, Canada, and Australia.

I also purchased the Hakkaa to collect some milk if I start leaking before the labor & delivery plus to help develop a supply when the baby comes. No leakage here yet but I’m a few weeks behind most ladies here.

@seeds_of_joy Wow…how did she even know you were an over supplier!!! 😳 That was a bit forward of her. Although, with the infant formula shortage last year, lots of breastfeeding moms helped pump extra milk to help the formula fed moms feed their babies. If I do have an oversupply, I plan to donate it to a breast milk bank or with one of the local doula networks here.

Speaking of shortages, one of my friends alerted me to an infant Tylenol shortage at least here in the southwest. Has anyone else seen the same thing?
  • @ttc3y they didn't know. It was a desperate dad that lived by us with a breastfed 6 week old. His partner was in the hospital with pneumonia and he came over in tears, not knowing how to care for their first baby. I was already nursing our 4th so we took her in for 4 days. The mom doesn't speak much English so it was basically do what I had to do type situation and I actually got help from local mom's from a breastfeeding group. It was a crazy time but I'm glad I got to help and the mother recovered and they had a 2nd child. They moved but we see them sometimes and we chat as much as we can. I have photos of our chubby son (4 months old at the time) sitting next to his tiny, hairy little girlfriend in his scrapbook.
  • @ttc3y Yea! There’s an infant and children’s Tylenol shortage and the start of a children’s ibuprofen shortage, too. We got the last bottle of children’s Tylenol that I could find in our part of Ohio and were about to start asking friends around the country to check around. And we use children’s Motrin at work but it’s been on back order with one of our approved vendors and a little difficult to find on the shelves.

@seeds_of_joy that’s so sweet, and that family was so lucky to have help! That must have been a scary time for them.

@amccurls colostrum collection was mentioned in our breastfeeding class as a way to avoid needing to bottle feed formula if we couldn’t do skin-to-skin for whatever reason or if they have difficulty regulating their blood sugar after birth. And our hospital definitely supports it if we bring colostrum in with us and my husband is really looking forward to whenever he gets a chance to feed the baby, so it seems like a win-win-win to have all options on the table. I’ve been leaking just a little, like a few drops here and there, so I know it’s there, I just have to figure out the best way to get it out and store it. I have a Haakaa and I tried with that last night, which was more efficient than hand expressing into a spoon, but it was going to be hard to get it out of the bottom of it because it’s not much, just a few mls. I’ll probably try right after a shower and see if it’s any quicker or more efficient, and hope that I have as much luck as @seeds_of_joy with getting labor moving, or at least moving in that direction a little more quickly.
  • I'm making my padsicles today! For those of you who haven't heard of this, I used them for my last couple births and they are amazing! All you do is take 8-20 pads and open them. Smear aloe on the entire thing and add a tsp of witch hazel in the middle. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil. Then you wrap them back up and put them in a big ziplock and freeze them.  They are soooo soothing after squeezing a little human out of your area.
  • @seeds_of_joy Yes! I plan to make a bunch for myself too. I have all the supplies. Just need to find time and focus to make them. How many do you usually need? And how often do you use them?
  • @ttc3y the recipe I used was for 20 but I think last time I didn't use that many so I only made 10. It's hard to remember details because it's been almost 5 years. I think I probably used a few a day for a few days (basically as needed). Those were with very minor tears. I may have wanted more with my firstborn if I had known about them because I was swollen pretty badly that time. They are very quick to make.
  • We’re pretty sure my husband has the flu and I’m pretty sure I’m starting to lose my mucus plug with slightly noticeable tinges of pain in my pelvis. So fingers crossed she holds off a couple days so I don’t have to labor alone🤞🏼😩
  • @amccurls oh no!! Let’s hope he gets better quickly and the baby holds off. How stressful that must be.  I am starting to lose mine too but know that it doesn’t necessarily mean labor is imminent. Sending good vibes your way!!
  • I also lost my mucus plug today. But no real contractions.

@amccurls, I hope your husband feels better soon and the baby waits a bit!
  • @amccurls hopefully he feels better soon, you don’t get it, too, and labor holds off for a few days until he can join you!
