Weekly Randoms Jan 9

Random picture of my 4 year old fishing from Saturday. Yes, we’re in short sleeves. I don’t believe it’s going to get cold here this year!

  • One of my 4 year old's many masterpieces. He's an artistic genius in case you can't tell.
  • @amccurls your son has great hair!!
  • @seeds_of_joy Love the use of Google eyes! 😂 so cute!
  • @seeds_of_joy thank you!! It’s my favorite feature of his and definitely doesn’t come from me haha
I also love the google eyes!
  • @amccurls it's nice when husband's contribute beautiful features to our little ones 😁
  • Where are you all at with figuring out a name for your little ones? We have a list and some front runners, but I'm worried that we will just draw a blank when it comes time to name him! Elliot is the top name right now.
  • @lucygracelaluz2020 Elliot is a sweet name!! I like that a lot.

We've had a name since before we knew ours was a girl.
  • @lucygracelaluz2020 I love Elliot! It would have been our name, but my husband’s cousin named her son Elliot 3 years ago so we had to rule it out. It’s not even a common name, but apparently it’s popular in his family!

We settled on Theodore Ross a few weeks ago, and we’ve been trying it out and making sure we kept liking it. We’re like 95% certain that that’s the name, but we aren’t telling anybody in real life right now because we don’t want to give them an opportunity to object.
  • @lucygracelaluz2020 I love Elliot too! It was on our list but my husband doesn’t really like it so we took it off. We’re team green so we have it narrowed down to three names each but with two definite front runners. We will decide when we meet baby. It’s how we’ve done it the other two times and had no issues.
  • @fertile-turtle we've had Theodore on our list many times. It's a great name. We were going to call ours Theo if we would have went with it. Teddy is cute though!
  • @lucygracelaluz2020, Elliot was on my list too. I really like it!

We’ve had three top names for months and said that we’d pick one after he’s born. However, I can tell that my husband has a favorite, and I’ve been trying it out. I don’t say it aloud, but I do think it sometimes rather than thinking ‘baby’. So, I’m 75% sure that we will name him Emmett Richard. Both of our fathers are named Richard. We are still hesitant to say that’s the name for sure just in case we see him and it doesn’t fit for some reason. But, I’m pretty sure we will go with this name.

We also aren’t telling anyone in real life to avoid judgement and opinions. It’s driving our mothers crazy. 😂
  • @karbaud our 8 year old Emmett was also named by his dad!

You are smart not to share with family. We have someone in particular who always has to give her 2 cents and try to change names we have already set in stone. It's frustrating.
  • @karbaud Emmett is such a good name, and it flows well with Richard. It’s great that they have the same name and you can honor both sides of the family at once!

It’s amazing how invested other people get in what you want to name your kid! My grandparents are especially stressed out about it, and my SIL apparently is, too 😂. My grandparents are also very stressed about the last name, no matter how many times we tell them that it’s just going to be the same as my husband’s.
  • We chose Theodore James and we’ll be calling him Theo 💜
  • Had my growth scan today and she’s measuring approximately 6 pounds 10 ounces right now and is predicted to be about 8 pounds 10 oz at birth. She’ll also probably be pretty tall like my son because her femurs are measuring in the 50th percentile. So no luck on a smaller baby this go around.

My OB didn’t check my cervix like I thought so I’m unsure if anything’s progressing. He did ask me again if I want to be induced and when I said I wanted to go natural he said he could sweep my membranes at 38 weeks if I want. I’m not sure what part of natural he’s not understanding, but it felt a little pushy. And 38 weeks sounds a bit early for that to me. Either way, I feel like I’ll be reminding him every week until she’s here that we’re not intervening.
  • @amccurls 38 weeks definitely seems early for that, especially if you aren’t having any complications or other concerns. Like I can see offering to try a membrane sweep before a full induction because it’s much lower intervention, but if you’re not looking at an induction for medical indications, it doesn’t make any sense.

It’s also becoming less common to perform routine cervical checks at the end of pregnancy, because it doesn’t really tell you anything useful and some women find it really uncomfortable. I was given the option and decided I wanted it because I wanted to know what, if anything, was happening (0 cm, but 50% effaced so not nothing), but for my midwife group at least, it’s not done automatically though it is routine to offer it.
  • I had a conversation with my mom, possibly the most pro-epidural person on the planet, yesterday, and discovered that she got her epidurals not because she was in much pain but because she was told “it’s now or never”. I’m so glad that we no longer have to make decisions about pain control based on whether it’s “too late” and can base it entirely on our own bodies and how we’re actually managing, not how we might feel later.

I’m also hoping that I got whatever genetics gave her such an easy labor up to that point. She apparently didn’t think she was having contractions and my grandmother noticed her belly tensing up and convinced her that she should go to the hospital, where she was already 8 cm dilated 😂. And it wasn’t much different with my brother.
  • My midwife is really hands off. She hasn't checked my cervix in any of the 4 pregnancies I had her for or while in labor unless there was a specific reason for that. It makes a huge difference as far as how comfortable I am to deliver.
  • I’m hoping for easy labors like my mom and sister had too! My mom had all unmedicated and fairly quick births. I don’t know the exact number of hours. My sister had a 4-hour labor with her first and a 6-hour induction plus labor with her second. I plan on being induced at 39 weeks.

I was planning on opting into the membrane sweep at 38 weeks in hopes to avoid the induction and to go into labor early. But, my OB has been pretty open and hasn’t been pushy at all.
  • What are you guys looking forward to after pregnancy? For me, I'm excited to eat sushi, and sleep on my stomach or back again, and excited to be able to crawl around and play around with my toddler like I used to before my belly got big! And looking forward to baby snuggles and smelling my baby's milk breath.
  • @lucygracelaluz2020 all the same except sushi and baby breath. I think I’m the only person that doesn’t understand new baby smells 😬
  • @lucygracelaluz2020 I'm really mostly looking forward to having my baby in my arms. Right after a baby is born is the closest thing to heaven on earth. But I'm also looking forward to having my body back and to eventually fit into normal clothes again.
  • @lucygracelaluz2020 I’m looking forward to getting into a hot hot hot tub and drinking something cold (it doesn’t have to be alcohol, but I wouldn’t say no to a nice glass of red) as I relax my troubles away 🤣

I’ve literally been dreaming about the hot tub.
  • Sushi is definitely up there, along with a rare steak and a glass of wine. Sleeping on my back or stomach, and being able to move normally again. And of course meeting our little guy and being able to share him with his dad in a way that just isn’t possible now (both responsibility-wise and bonding-wise ❤️).
  • @karbaud that motherly instinct will come naturally, don’t worry 😊
