13 week anatomy scan- no kidney or bladder seen

in 1st Trimester
I had my nt scan today and then also do an initial fetal survey. The first thing the tech said to me was that they needs to visualize the bladder at this appointment.

Everything else in the scan looked fine in term of NT and nasal bone but they could not visualize the bladder or kidneys. They did a transvaginal scan to look at well but no luck. They said it’s ok but I need a repeat scan in 3 weeks. I’m terrified, started crying in the office.

The didn’t mention anything about low fluid, they commented on the report “normal amount” and baby is measuring on track.

Anyone have a similar situation ?

    13 weeks is not an appropriate time for an anatomy scan.  20 weeks is when things are more developed. 

    I'm not sure your situation, but why did you have an "anatomy scan" at 13 weeks???

    @harpseal135 OP didn't say anatomy. They said NT scan which does happen at 11-13wks. Though why the tech was looking at kidneys and bladder doesn't make sense for an NT scan which should only be looking at fluid behind the neck.

    No need to critique the title of the post. My clinic does a 13 week nt AND initial fetal anatomy survey which is the new standard of practice. Looking for support here while in a vulnerable position, not be torn down, I’ll post elsewhere from now on

    No one was tearing you down. They were just trying to work out exactly what your clinic is doing. I understand you’re in a vulnerable position but you can’t be THAT sensitive when you post a question on a public forum. People are going to have discussions and they aren’t going to necessarily say things that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. 

    As for your question, I have never encountered it so I have no advice but I hope everything ends up being ok.

    The problem is it doesn't make a lot of sense why they looked at your baby's kidneys and bladder during an NT scan at 13 weeks when that's really only looking for fluid at the neck. I would call your OB and ask what's up. The 20 week anatomy scan is more appropriate for looking at organ development. I'm sorry we can't be more helpful but this is seriously a concern for your medical team. A bunch of internet strangers are gonna have a hard time explaining this one unfortunately

    No one here has ever heard of a clinic doing an early fetal anatomy survey. Unfortunately, that’s your answer. Maybe you should be making an appointment to discuss this with your provider. That’s what I do when I don’t understand what I’m being told. I ask more questions until I can wrap my brain around it.

    For what it’s worth, they did identify my baby’s bladder at the NT scan, and verbally told me what it was, but didn’t state they were specifically looking for it. Not sure if it’s part of the deal or not these days. I’m AMA so I assume all the extras are due to my age.
