AMA applies to anyone woman who will be 35 or older at delivery, regardless of your age during pregnancy.
Due date/W+D: 8/23 6w,4d
Age at delivery? 38 😬😬 I had my oldest at 28 so it’s just really weird
FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: STM +third
Team?: find out for sure!
Any appointments? Questions?: 1/16 ultrasound and 2/13 first visit
Rants/Raves?: n/a
Any specific AMA concerns? Not really. I’m more concerned about my hx of complications. I’m otherwise in decent shape, I just came off a really great marathon training season.
GTKY: What's your favorite memory? That’s a one to pick just one. I’ll go with Christmas Eve making cookies with the kids and my husband. We do this every year but usually he’s at church all day as he volunteers. This it was canceled because of the snow so he was home and helped.
FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: Hard to count, but I guess second time mom (1 living child, but this is my seventh pregnancy)
Team?: find out. The more info, the better.
Any appointments? Questions?: no appointments scheduled yet. I had some bleeding in weeks 3 and 4, and they said to wait to schedule until we knew better if I was miscarrying or not.
Rants/Raves?: Not really, just struggling to feel hopeful. I wish my OB team was more proactive/interested in preventing miscarriage.
Any specific AMA concerns? No, I’m high risk as well with an autoimmune disease, and that’s a bigger issue for me than being AMA.
GTKY: What's your favorite memory? That’s a hard one! A recent favorite memory was watching my kindergartener sing in his school Christmas concert. His eyes lit up when he saw me in the audience, and he told me after that he had been so scared and had wanted to run away, but once he saw me, he felt safe and had fun. 💛
@lily.hazel I’m sorry to hear your team does not seem to be looking out for you. Hopefully there is nothing wrong and you get an appointment set up soon!
Age at delivery? More than likely 38. My birthday is 8/3 so if baby comes earlier I could be 37 but based on my first pregnancy, my babies don't seem to be in a hurry lol
FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: STM
Team?: Green!
Any appointments? Questions?: First u/s was 12/22. Second appt will be 1/16.
Rants/Raves?: N/A
Any specific AMA concerns? Not really. My first daughter had a SUA, but that wasn't necessarily related to my age. I'm curious to get to see my anatomy scan to see if this one has one as well. I hope I can have as few extra risks as possible so that I don't have to be induced again.
GTKY: What's your favorite memory? Meeting my daughter.
@msjaay maybe a birthday baby?! My girls were both March due dates, with my last being born in February instead, due to being induced. It’s going to be strange having a summer baby close to my own. Mine is in June.
@novelblessings You sound very similar to me! My girl was born in February so I'm trying to wrap my head around a Summer newborn! And possibly a birthday baby haha.
Any appointments? Questions?: first ultrasound next week at 8W3D
Rants/Raves?: sorry, lots of rants today…
Impossible to find a midwife / Obgyn in Vancouver, Canada. Also all info online seems negative and pessimistic about pregnancy over 35. Makes a nerve-wrecking experience even more unpleasant. Everywhere you look it talks about increased risks, potential losses, etc. I had to search AMA pregnancy success stories online to make myself feel better. I’m so bloated I look like I’m 3 months pregnant already, and not really wanting to buy new pants until after the ultrasound next week. Doctor advised not to go swimming until after the first trimester, which makes staying active more difficult. As an older pregnant woman who’s had one miscarriage in the past, I sometimes find myself feeling very lonely and helpless. Also, disrupted sleep is no fun.
Any specific AMA concerns? Nervous about miscarriage, ectopic, not finding a heartbeat, and upcoming genetic testing.
@chilok hey and welcome! Sorry you are having g a hard time finding a provider, that must be very frustrating.
I would say don’t google anything! I know several friend who were AMA with no issues. I didn’t really plan this per say, at this age, but I don’t anticipate my age being a factor in any issues I may have.
I also have the same fears though. This is my third. We didn’t exactly plan it, what if I go to my u/s and its not good. 🤷🏻♀️ I had the same fears at 33 and at 27 though. It will be ok. We can all complain about it here 😁
FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: this is my 9th pregnancy and hopefully 7th earthside baby.
Team?: finding out. I’m hoping for a girl but a healthy baby is what I want most.
Any appointments? Questions?: I have a telehealth appointment on Monday to discuss a bleed they found during my ultrasound on Tuesday. I want some education on what exactly it is because it’s not the same as a SCH. I was told it won’t affect the baby but I’m confused as to how it won’t. I’m looking for them to help me understand exactly what I’m dealing with and how to move forward in a way to help the bleed heal as fast as it can.
Rants/Raves?: my baby is still sick. It’s been a feel week now and I’m dying. I took him in and they said he could possibly go on like this for another week. Lord help me! My other kids aren’t sick so that’s the silver lining.
Any specific AMA concerns? No, as of now I’m sticking with my midwife and they don’t push any interventions that I would typically get with an OB office. Unnecessary induction for example.
@chilok I have had 2 successful pregnancies since I turned 35. They had very little issues. The only thing with both were small subchorionic hematomas and they healed with no issues. Just because you turn 35 doesn’t mean you’re doomed to have issues.
Due date/W+D: 8/10 I think? I never remember. If so, 9 weeks
Age at delivery? 38
FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: STM
Team?: Find out ASAP. It becomes so much more real to me when baby has a name and I'm not just referring to it as "gremlin".
Any appointments? Questions?: 12-week appointment 1/26. I need to call insurance to see if they'll cover my NIPT.
Rants/Raves?: Rave - Most symptoms went away this past week, KNOCK ON WOOD. I'm still exhausted by mid afternoon (and usually get a 20-minute nap on my daughter's floor while she naps -- it's bizarrely comfortable) but coffee tastes good again and I'm not nauseous every night. Yay! Rant - MY DAUGHTER IS DRIVING ME BONKERS THIS WEEK. I love her more than life itself but I'm also about two minutes away from jumping out a window. I keep repeating the Busy Toddler mantra "Being 3 is fine" and reminding myself I had more Fridays in high school than she's had in her entire life. But good lord.
Any specific AMA concerns? My OB said she doesn't treat it as AMA until 40. I don't know if that's for better or for worse. So that's sort of a concern I guess? She also seems convinced I had/will have GD (I was nowhere near it with my daughter, she was just huge, and despite a family history of diabetes and not exactly being a twig myself, my regular labs have always been surprisingly normal) so she told me at my last appointment to really be wise about my diet, which of course is fun advice when the only things that sound good are pasta and pancakes.
GTKY: What's your favorite memory? Ever? Um. That's hard. I love love love watching my husband play with my daughter. I cried when she was SO HAPPY this Christmas to get a knock-off American Girl doll that looks like her. But favorite ever is probably when we went to Disney World when she was 1.5 and we saw Snow White (her favorite princess) in a character cavalcade, and she locked in on my daughter and played peekaboo with her until the car she was in was out of sight. The pure adoration on my daughter's face was something I'll never forget, and she's talked about it ever since, it's still so vivid to her.
@ki1244 with my toddlers pregnancy, he was measuring really big and they asked me almost every appointment if I have ever been diagnosed with GD. I haven’t with any of my babies. He was born close to 9 lbs and was my biggest baby. They were just so sure and extremely surprised when I passed the glucose test with flying colors. Im hoping for a baby closer to 6lbs this time. 😆 The births are so much easier. My daughter was practically painless when I birthed her. I would love my last labor to be like that.
@emeraldcity603 my daughter was induced a week early and came out at 9lb 12oz. She had a huge poop as she came out, too, which the nurse said was probably close to the difference in being a full 10 pounds. I was exactly the same size at birth but I was two weeks overdue, and my sister was almost 9 pounds but was two weeks early. My husband and his siblings were all 8-10 pounds. My glucose test results were textbook normal last time too. Our families just make big babies I guess! Which makes for less fun labor, but it was sort of nice that she had some heft to her -- I felt like she was maybe not quite *as* fragile. But I'm still sort of jealous of the women who are like "I pushed twice and the baby just fell out!"
Age at delivery? 35, possibly 36 depending on when they arrive.
FTM/STM/TTM, etc?: 4TM
Team?: unsure. We’ve been team green twice, found out with our last because he gave us a lovely view at his ultrasound. Might find out this time, but keep it to ourselves? We have 3 boys and the comments are brutal.
Any appointments? Questions?: I had my telehealth appointment with my doctor on Friday. My first in person appointment will be on 1/30.
Rants/Raves?: coffee tastes gross 😭 that is all.
Any specific AMA concerns? Did anyone else’s doctor tell them to take additional folic acid? I’ve got 1mg in my prenatal and I’m now taking 4x1mg tablets for a total of 5mg until 12 weeks. Then I can just go back to what’s in my prenatal.
GTKY: What's your favorite memory? Probably diving the Great Barrier Reef with my parents and sister when I was a kid.
@chilok I’m sorry you’re having a difficult time finding a care provider. I’m on the opposite coast in Nova Scotia and if you want a midwife you have to get on the list at the moment of conception, honestly. OBs aren’t so bad. But family doctor is impossible. Ugh the system is so broken here.
@pickle-chips We have two girls. We’ve been asked for years if we are going to “have a boy” as if I can choose. My husband is convinced we are having another girl. I’m on the fence with telling people too much this time. I want to know all the things but maybe we keep the sex a secret until baby is born? This is our last kiddo.
@msjaay My girls were both on the smaller size too. 5lbs 14oz and 6lbs 9oz. I believe I just make smaller babies but this one who knows! My kiddos are both above average for their age now. 😂
Any appointments? Questions?: I have my nts on Tuesday but so far everything is going smooth
Rants/Raves?: just happy to be at the 11 week mark. I feel as if my nausea is more manageable (not sure bc it’s diminishing or I’m just getting better at handling it)
Any specific AMA concerns? Just being 37/38 when I have my first kid and the adjustment to mom life and I have selfishly lived this long to have 8 hours sleep on a regular so I think it’ll be a wake up call and tough but happily doable
I also found out that I am positive for BRCA1 mutation bc my sister has ovarian cancer stage 3 and she told me it’s most likely genetics so i got tested and yup positive unfortunately so it’s a lot to worry about and just hope I’m healthy and clear or anything while I’m pregnant
GTKY: What's your favorite memory? Being able to travel with my father in his old age to see Ha Long Bay in Vietnam and him be so astonished by the miracle of the wonders of the world. He has dementia now so it will always be cherished.
@lmn823 I’m so sorry about your sister. That’s a scary thing to test positive for that gene mutation. Hopefully you don’t encounter anything concerning.
