Gendered colors for kids clothes really piss me off. I kinda wish we didn't tell people what we were having. I just washed and organized the itty bitty baby clothes and the amount of pink drives me nuts. And I'm not a pink person either. Like I don't care if this is a boy, he's gonna wear all the pink and I'll drive the boomer family members bonkers. 😹
I wish I would’ve gotten more gender neutral NB-3-6 month clothes. If we have another boy we’re set completely but if it’s a girl then we need to start over but then that’s another whole set of baby clothes to store somewhere because this won’t be our last
ETA: the clothes we have aren’t just like blue, most of them say boy or have boy sayings on them so can’t use those on a girl lol
We were team green with DS and it meant we have so many gender neutral clothes! It was great but the neutrals get old after a while. So while technically we should have no problems with clothes for a girl, I know I’m going to want a couple flowery things. Not super pink or girlie but just something slightly different! Anyway, I am very pro not finding out gender solely to avoid getting ugly clothes from people 😂 once he was born though we got some of the weird ones with words and trucks and dinosaurs.
@ccmrc143 I’m so picky about clothes. My MIL tried so hard to buy the kids clothes and I never end up using them. I don’t like any kind of outfit that is related to sports, no cartoons, and certain fabrics bother me. I end up never using them and have a ton of stuff with a bunch of tags.
@emeraldcity603 yes I totally relate to that! Have you been able to somehow delicately tell her you don’t want clothes as gifts? I have told my MIL that we always buy from gap kids or old navy, that we don’t like words or cartoons or that “paint” on clothes. She only goes to TJ Max and doesn’t care. And then DH thinks I’m mean for never putting DS in her gifts. Looking back I wish I’d actually invested in some higher quality gender neutral baby clothes from like goumi because even though I can find cute cotton patterns at old navy, the incessant laundering turned the clothes scratchy pretty quickly.
@ccmrc143 No, I’m always very accepting of her gifts even when it’s the ugliest outfit I have ever seen. Once they reach toddlerhood it goes to the play clothes pile. We hike up dusty mountains and play in mud and when it get too hot for our mud gear we have to sacrifice some clothing. Although, I’ve gotten good at getting dirt out with a glass washboard. I snap a picture before they destroy it and send it to her. It keeps the peace and the outfits I like get to stay nice. Win win!
We inherited almost all my daughter's clothes from a friend who has a little girl exactly two years older than mine. She was REALLY into unicorns, which are not our favorite thing, but free is free, right? I don't think I've actually bought a single outfit for her in 3.5 years. So I'm praying this is a girl because if it's a boy we're starting from scratch with a wardrobe but we have alllllllllllll the girl things still.
@ki1244 I saved all my 7 year old’s clothes and I have been passing them down but we lived in TX for several years before loving to Alaska and I ended up having to buy an entirely new wardrobe for my 3 year old because we had nothing but summer clothes and we need long sleeves and pants on cold summer days. It was annoying but what do you do when you make a move like that.
