Increased, pounding heart rate

Hi everyone! I am 6w4d with my first pregnancy and don’t have my first doctors appointment until 12/22. But the past few days, my heart rate has been really, really high and feels like it’s pounding out of my chest. I know that an increased heart rate is normal due to the increased blood volume and hormone surge. But it literally feels like I’m having a heart attack at times and lasts for hours. Last night it got up to 126bpm and I was incredibly dizzy and out of it. I’m on vacation in Mexico right now and can’t go to a hospital. I’m doing everything I can to relax, but it happens anytime I am standing or walking. My first symptom at 4 weeks was dizziness, and I have a naturally high resting heart rate anyway, so maybe it’s just normal for my body in pregnancy? But I don’t know what else to do and started getting concerned last night.

Re: Increased, pounding heart rate

  • Do you have a dr you can call to discuss your concern?
  • Loading the player...
  • Call your doc, i have this symptom with my third pregnancy and asked doc to test my thyroid- came back abnormal, but treatable with medication
  • Make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids as dehydration can increase heart rate with activity
  • The same exact thing happened to me. I felt awful-dizzy, palpitations, felt like anytime I did anything I was going to pass out. They had me wear a holter monitor and make a cardiologist appt. I’m still waiting to go but it has improved! Drink A LOT of water, I thought I was drinking enough (4-5 30oz yeti’s/day) and they said that wasn’t enough lol.
  • Your thyroid might be pit of whack and/or you may be dehydrated. Both happened to me, my thyroid med dosage needed to be changed because the interaction with pregnancy hormones messed me up. Drink 60+oz of water a day, dehydration negatively affects BP and heart rate. Gatorade or hydration boosters can help.
