I love all sorts of video games; but playing anything intense has been hard since DD. So I've been sticking to minecraft, stardew valley, and sentinels of the multiverse (also love the physical game too). But also love the boarderlands franchise, COD zombies, RDR2, the sims franchise, fallout 4, GTA, stellaris.
IRL games I like magic the gathering, sentinels, mysterium, I'm sure I'm forgetting something... LOL.
I like RPG type games, video games I mostly have just been playing Skyrim for a decade. I also have Horizon zero dawn and Ni No Kuni 2 but I haven’t finished either of those. I don’t like online multiplayer games because I like to play at my own pace and not be forced into group dungeons. I play so infrequently now that it’s hard to get back into them because it takes me a minute to remember what I was doing in the game(s).
IRL, we have similar style board games, mostly themed like a hobbit one and a GoT one. I know cards against humanity has gotten old, but there’s a lot of similar style card games and we have one specifically parenting theme. I’ve only had the chance to play it once but it was hilarious. It’s been out since 2020, so it has pandemic related stuff (like trying to keep masks on small children).
My SO and I used to play DND, but he’s the only one who has returned regularly since having our first. I help him with behind the scenes work like making maps, encounters, rolling treasure etc. I did run a game remotely when my coworkers and I were all initially laid off in 2020, but it stopped when we all returned to work in person.
Mostly I play simple kids board games and memory with our son because he’s almost 4 and getting ok at focusing and following rules now.
@ceclarlinetlo I don't think there was a particular game during the lockdown that got me through, but tiktok surely did.
@tumbleweed-1 my DH played more World of Darkness over DnD growing up so we started a game like 2 years ago with some of his friends... though we haven't gotten anywhere with it LOL.
@ceclarlinetlo yessss to Animal Crossing! That is definitely my comfort game.
I love all the Mario games and enjoy a lot of the old school NES and N64 games. For board games, I’m willing to try just about anything. My brother has probably over 100 board games and has introduced us to a lot of obscure ones that are super fun. My current favorite is Tarantula Tango. Ticket to Ride is another favorite and Fast Track (which is similar to Sorry!).
This thread is so helpful because I know NOTHING about gaming, and yet I just bought DH a Nintendo switch for Xmas! I’m excited to get into old school Mario games with him and play sports on it. I know that’s pretty lame and basic. But id love any recs for NS games for the uninitiated like me. I don’t like too much violence or storylines 😬
The first video game I really played through was the last of us back in 2013 and have loved story line games since then Uncharted series, God of War ect. I also enjoy the far cry and fallout series. Me and my husband love finding good couch coop games since they seem hard to come by We just finished It takes two and it was fantastic the story line might not be what you need in your relationship but the game play was phenomenal I highly suggest for any couple gamers
@Ccmrc143 You should try Mario odyssey and Zelda breath of the wild both are a little old now but great still plays it’s been hard keep up with all the new games with a small child lol oh and It Takes Two is a is a couch co op with availability on the switch if you wanted to join in
@ccmrc143 if you want a fun but kind of silly game, Untitled Goose Game is surprisingly fun and really easy to figure out. You play as a goose and cause shenanigans to the people in the game. I think it’s either free or just a couple bucks in the Nintendo shop.
I play Disney Emoji Blitz and Lily's Garden on my phone if I just need a minute...but that's about it. My husband and I used to do puzzles and play games occasionally (Ticket to Ride, sometimes Settlers of Catan but casually) but that's all but died with having a 3-year-old who stays up until like 9 at night most days.
We have game nights with friends frequently so lots of card and board games. We have Exploding Kittens and multiple Ticket to Ride versions but we mostly play those. A favorite with friends is Cards Against Humanity or Hues and Clues. The kids like Monopoly and sometimes we will pull out the Wii to play with them.

Video games would be animal crossings and the N64 games on my sons switch.
