1st Trimester

9 weeks- advice please! Multiples?!

Hi people, first time pregnant. 9 weeks and I have a bump, and I don't just mean a bloating bump, its big enough for people to ask me if I'm 6/7 months gone?! My partner, friends and family all say i look 3rd trimester pregnant. I look huge. I've had significant symptoms, my breasts have gone from DDs to Fs in a few weeks and are super sore. I'm constantly exhausted and nauseous to a point where I'm having 2-3 hour naps everyday.

With the size of my 'bump' and significant symptoms I'm worried I could be having twins/multiples or maybe I got my dates really wrong (but I did have a period albeit a light 3 day one 9/10 weeks ago).

Any advice please? My app with midwives is Dec 28th and scan won't be until a few weeks after that so like at 13/14 weeks, I want it sooner to know what's going on.

  • I would definitely call your midwives and tell them all of this. They may decide to see you sooner!

  • Third time mom here, all singletons. I had all these symptoms at this gestational age and this all sounds pretty normal. It’s wild, isn’t it?

Even if you are wrong on your dates and are really around 13 weeks, your uterus would *just* be peeking above your pubic bone at this point. I promise it’s bloat.

You can certainly call and see if they can move up your appointment, but don’t be disappointed if they don’t.
  • Thanks that's reassuring, I've been so worried with all the comments from people asking if I'm 7 months gone. My partners a doctor and he says I'm showing signs of potential twins, again making me worry! Don't get me wrong I'd be happy with twins, I'd just rather know so I can mentally prepare.

But again, thankyou. It really is wild. I don't think I appreciated how difficult pregnancy is or can be for women until I'm now in it!
  • Significant symptoms are not an indicator of twins. Even HCG isn't necessarily an indicator. Some people have more symptoms from progesterone than others. I never had more than a slightly upset stomach in the mornings after waking up even though I was on progesterone supplementation that broughty levels up to around 100 (when something like 20+ is typical). Also, if your bump is still pretty soft, that's all bloat and not a true baby bump.

I had people tell me I looked small as well as ready to pop any day now when I was in my 3rd trimester. I personally didn't feel my bump was that big but in pictures it did. Everybody carries differently!
