Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Accidentally gave infant Motrin

Hi moms!

I was given the ok to give Motrin to my daughter by a doctor, and did when and was about 41/2 months old.
Now she’s a little more than 5 months and sick so I called and talked to a different doc who said it should ONLY be over 6 months. Sure enough I googled and I am FREAKING OUT!
the original doc was at a football game and distracted so I’m so resentful. So so worries I damaged her little kidneys

Re: Accidentally gave infant Motrin

  • If it was still the right dosage I don’t think a one time mistake is going to do any harm. I wouldn’t worry too much just keep an eye on her to make sure she doesn’t have a reaction to the medicine and you should be fine. Try not to stress mama you are just trying to make your baby feel better. You can try infant Tylenol too if your little one has a fever. Unfortunately they really don’t have a lot of medicine to pick from for little ones. My son gets colds often (5 months old) from my toddler and I just let it run its course with him. One other thing that my pediatrician recommended was a dehumidifier and saline solution for the nose it did wonders for both my kids. Hope this helps you some

  • She’s most likely fine. It was one dose and she’s pretty close to 6 months and a lot of it has to do with weight anyway. I wouldn’t worry about it! Kind of crappy that the doc was giving medical advice while being distracted and not looking at your child’s file though… I’d be more mad about that!
  • I did the same once. The kid is fine. Just don’t do it again.
