Losing mucus plug

I’ve been losing my mucus plug since last Friday and I am 33 weeks today. Called my midwife and talked to her nurse, said it’s normal at this point? I feel like it might be kind of early… I was told as long as I’m not bleeding or there isn’t any amniotic fluid leaking, I should be fine and just come to my
appointment next week. I’ve read it can regenerate, too. Anyone else having this happen this early?

Re: Losing mucus plug

  • (lurking) I lost my plug at 34 weeks and continued to lose bits of it for the next week and delivered by scheduled C-section at 38 weeks as planned.  Like your midwife said, nothing to worry about as long as no bleeding, leaking, or active contractions.  It just means you're slightly dilated (probably 2-3 cm, if you lost the plug), but you can stay that way for weeks.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I haven't lost mine yet with this pregnancy but I lost (and regenerated) it very early on with my previous pregnancy. It absolutely wasn't a worry and he ended up being born 4 days after his due date so definitely not a sign that you'll go into labor early.
