HcG Levels

Hi guys,
last month my husband and I had a chemical pregnancy and my HcG levels were at 26. This month we are pregnant again with our rainbow baby and my blood work came back with an HcG level of 330. I’ll be 5 weeks tomorrow. Does this seem too low or is it an ok level? I’m terrified too think of losing another baby again. Thanks!!

Re: HcG Levels

  • I’ve had a chemical pregnancy and a miscarriage. I am pregnant again and HCG levels have been running my life, so I completely understand.
To start- I had my HCG levels tested a few days ago and I was at 336 and I was 5 weeks.
Something to keep in mind— HCG number vary A LOT. 330 is considered normal, but so is 200. And so it’s 1,500. So long as your levels are at least doubling every 48-72 hours, you’re fine.

Ps, I’ve gone so crazy as to calculate what my HCG levels SHOULD at least be by my next blood test. No matter what they are though, I’ll probably still panic anyway. That’s just a trauma response, and that’s ok.

  • Thank you. That reassures me a little bit. I do feel like I am going bonkers with wondering if my levels are okay.
  • The anxiety around HCG is so tough! I had a chemical as well. My first read during that pregnancy was 62 at almost 5 weeks but even with that, they weren’t worried until the second draw (which was 10). I knew it was ending because I was obsessively testing with strips and my lines got fainter. That said, I think the 300 range is great and normal, and my fingers are crossed for you that it doubles!!

I'm super dumb with this but does that require a blood draw or how do you even find this out? My first pregnancy was super easy but I'm a little edgy with this one, especially since we haven't actually seen a doc and apparently won't until after the new year. Is this something you can check at home or only in a clinic?

Edit: first time around I wound up in the ER with some lower right quadrant pain at what I thought was 4 weeks, and had to be checked out for an ectopic (and it turned out to be nothing but my doc wanted me to be checked anyway). So I had my first ultrasound then, and my OB followed up with another at 7 weeks to confirm everything. Now not being seen for another month, I'm just sort of nervous about a CP or miscarriage or something in the meantime (or, you know, even a blood test to confirm YUP YOURE KNOCKED UP).
  • @ki1244 it’s an understandable question! Yes you would call your doctor and say hey I got a positive pregnancy test at home, would I be allowed to go to the lab to get my HCG levels checked? I would explain your history and the fact that you’re nervous, and ideally the doctor will understand and order the tests for you. You go one day, get that result, and then go back 48 hours later to get the second. The period of time between positive test and first appointment is excruciatingly long.

I have an intake with a nurse on the 21, and then first appointment at 8w. But that’s why I’m “saving” my two blood tests for next week. It’s a crazy anxiety game where I feel like ok this week I’ll just try to be satisfied by the positive at home tests. Next week I’ll indulge my anxiety and get my levels checked. And the week after that I can finally talk to a nurse. I get that there’s nothing they can do for us medically so early but we need support and more frequent touch points to confirm things!
  • I’m 5w6d today and my HCG came back last night at 70. I’ve been discharging brown and some tissue/clots but the nurse didn’t feel concerned. I’m pretty concerned and not sure what to ask for next?

Have not gotten an ultrasound yet so no confirmation.
  • That number is low but not too low for normal @knottie58226e065675bddb are you going back tomorrow for a second blood draw? You’ll want to get blood drawn around 48 hours after the first test, and ask if your numbers have doubled. As long as the next result is 140ish you should be good. Fingers crossed for you!!
  • I’ll go back tonight for my second draw but unfortunately I don’t think I need the confirmation. I started to bleed more last night so I’ll make an Ob appt today to confirm miscarriage 💔
  • @knottie58226e065675bddb I’m praying for you, and you’re not alone 💔
  • @knottie58226e065675bddb I'm so sorry. Hoping it's a scare but either way you're in my prayers.
  • Sending you my prayers x
  • Today I got my first blood draw. I’ve been so nervous and putting it off but now at 5w it feels appropriate. Haven’t heard the results yet but I feel strongly that it’s going to be high (or at least higher than 62 which was my chemical number). Still so so scared. I hate this part!
  • My HCG came back at 691!!! I’m 5w today. I know the doubling is what to look for. But knowing my number is this high, compared to the 62 starting number last time, is just a huge relief. I’m so happy.
  • Second levels came in at 1324 at 5w3d which is a doubling time of 53 hours. Doctor said it’s normal — I always thought normal was 48 hours but I guess it’s 48-72 :) I’m trying to be relieved. The sad truth is now that I’ve gotten my two tests (my doctor won’t let me get more) I have nothing left to reassure me and I’m a ball of anxiety. I’m questioning whether I should’ve even gone back today or just waited until way later like you did @knottieea0c734f2a6e4634 pregnancy after loss, even when loss is “just” a chemical pregnancy is so so hard
  • It’s hard for sure, but have faith. The way I look at it is I am already further along than my miscarriage last month. My HcG is doubling and tripling, and I’m showing like crazy with this being my third baby. We got this. Chin up.
  • I am glad to know that I'm not the only one with low HcG levels! I had a very faint positive at 5 weeks so I went on and got a blood test. My HcG showed 256. I thought that was okay but my MedTech friend told me it was low. This is my first pregnancy and I'm getting very anxious especially this early on in pregnancy when you can't know what is happening to the baby.
