    FTM/STM/STM+: third time mom

Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: find out at anatomy scan in January! Today I was thinking about how I've been pretty turned off by sweets this pregnancy and having more savory cravings - fun to notice the old wives tales and see whats right and whats not!

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: plum

Upcoming appointments: appointment this Thursday. I asked my midwife if she wouldn't mind breaking out her u/s machine for me one last time before the anatomy scan and I'm excited to see how much bigger baby is!

How are you feeling: I think all the sickness has finally been dispelled from our home... (knock on wood). I had some extra vomiting this weekend without extra nausea? It was weird and a little irritating to have such sudden needs to run to the bathroom. Otherwise more or less feeling... pregnant.

Rants / Raves: I had a nice burst of energy on Sunday to get some cleaning done! Of course it didn't last long but it was nice to be able to move around comfortably and energetically for a bit.

    Questions: none!

GTKY: what is your go-to cozy winter meal? I am a big soup gal but nobody else in my family is! So I would have to say now it's a nice crock pot roast with creamy mashed potatoes. But I love a good chicken and gnocchi soup with breadsticks or potato soup!

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise:
    Surprise

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of:
    My app says a nectarine

    Upcoming appointments:
    Not for a couple weeks

    How are you feeling:
Tired but otherwise pretty great which is a relief just in time for our trip in a couple days!

    Rants / Raves:
Not really, some baby onesies I ordered came in the mail today though and there's a multi-coloured dinosaur pair that I looooove haha

    Questions:

GTKY: what is your go-to cozy winter meal? Usually lasagna but this question is making me realize I haven't made it at all yet this winter! A pre-made frozen chicken pot pie that I just have to throw in the oven has been my go-to 😆

  • Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days: 6/8, 13 weeks 4 days

    FTM/STM/STM+: third time mom

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: Boy!

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: a lemon

Upcoming appointments: 14th, check in with midwife

How are you feeling: really tired and totally unmotivated

Rants / Raves: I just can't wait to start feeling baby move

    Questions:

GTKY: what is your go-to cozy winter meal?
Probably veggie stew with mashed potatoes or some yummy soup.
  • @potato3000 is this your camping trip you were undecided on? I hope you have a great time with your family!! You reminded me I love a good chicken pot pie too, sounds yummy!

@sunny_native14 I started feeling itty bitty little flutters recently, hopefully you can soon! The movement is probably my favorite part of pregnancy. The flutters aren't super frequent yet, I probably only feel baby once every 3ish days, and always in the same little spot on my lower left tummy. I think that's their hang out spot, because that's where baby was during my 8wk u/s too!
  • @thescarletmom No, that wasn't me (I think it was whoever has a tomato profile picture and username haha) I'm headed to Mexico for a week just DH and I -- planned and booked not at all expecting to be pregnant so I'm pretty happy with how the timing has ended up working out!
  • @sunny_native14 Fellow third-timer over here and I haven't felt them yet and can't wait either!!
  • @potato3000 oh, well yay for a vacation!! A week in Mexico sounds wonderful, I hope it's relaxing and exactly what you need!
  • Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days:
    June 4th, 13+1weeks

    FTM/STM/STM+:
    Third time mom.

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise:
    Team green 💚

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of:
A peach and apparently this week the baby can potentially hear things though I think it takes a fewx more weeks to really develop all the way.

    Upcoming appointments:
Dec 12 so a week, I'm definitely going to ask for another ultrasound. I know it's extra but I can't go an entire month with nothing and especially not with another doppler fail.

    How are you feeling:
Still pretty sick and really tired but I think most of the fatigue is from my thyroid meds. Which I hate, I can't even look forward to a boost of second trimester energy with the life being sucked out of me like this.

    Rants / Raves:
Someone pls explain to me why all my body hair is growing at warp speeds but all the hair is falling out of my head. I'm so over it.
Also we've been in the market to buy a house since this summer, and my partner told me yesterday he thinks we should just move to the area we want to be in and lease an apartment. Which I'm devasted about honestly. I know the interest rates are bad right now but we haven't lived in a place of our own our entire relationship. I'm tired of not being settled. It doesn't help that we've exclusively lived in some of the most expensive places in the country, which is why we don't already own something so I can't be mad but I'm really sad. I don't want to move into an apartment with two little kids. Not to mention my partner doesn't want to live on the first floor and I don't want to do stairs with a two year old and a new baby just to go outside and I'm sick of not having our own yard and sharing common spaces. I'm just so tired of our tiny living situation. My partner's mindset is why buy something we can afford right now when we could get something bigger/nicer for cheaper once prices come down, which I guess makes sense but his parents also keep telling him not to buy and wait until prices are like they were in 1980 and I keep telling him he needs to stop listening to that bs because prices are never going to do that again but he's already not very motivated and I feel like the bad advice just makes him want to do nothing even more. Ugh. I just want to be in our own place yesterday so I can get ready for the baby. Anyways those are my two rants.

    Questions:

GTKY: what is your go-to cozy winter meal?
Japanese curry on repeat, particularly with pork tonkatsu. I'll also never turn down the opportunity to make a chicken pot pie 🥧
  • @kalesix3 same with the u/s next appointment. I know I don't "need" it but also yes I do. I'm sorry your thyroid meds are such a drain 🥺

Your living situation sounds like it's giving you a lot of stress too, and that can be so hard on energy levels. My DH has been weirdly against the idea of us ever buying a house since before we got married. He's terrified of us being on the hook for anything big that happens to the house, like a bad water heater, etc. It's so frustrating. He had the same childhood home for like 15 years and I grew up renting and moving around constantly, and it bothers me so much to keep living this way. Especially because we lucked into our house, very reasonable rent for a single family home with a yard and in one of the best school districts. Exceeeept its teeny tiny and 2 bedrooms as we prepare to add a 5th person. We won't go back to renting an apartment after having a single family home, so we basically can't leave here except to buy. Which I feel like is becoming a pipe dream with DH. I think it makes total sense for you to be upset and frustrated, I would be too.
  • @kalesix3 mmm now I want Japanese curry. It's my husband's fav meal, too!
  • Estimated Due Date / Weeks + Days: June 10th / 13w3d

    FTM/STM/STM+: Second Time Mom

Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: We will find out in January.

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: Lemon!

Upcoming appointments:  December 22nd with OB and anatomy scan on the books for January 17th!

How are you feeling:  I either have a headache of cold symptoms every single day.  I had a really rough weekend with the headache with a lot of vomiting from the pain.  It was terrible. I felt so bad for my kiddo having to deal with me like that all weekend.  We went to a hockey game (that he earned tickets to by reading 10 books) and I couldn't even stay the whole time with all the yelling.

Rants / Raves:  Just miserable with being sick like every day.

Questions:  Is a NT scan pretty standard?  I am apparently not getting one as MFM called to schedule my anatomy scan for January.

GTKY: what is your go-to cozy winter meal?  Chili for sure. Although, I do make that all year round.

    Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: Team girl!

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: jalapeño

Upcoming appointments: tomorrow. Was supposed to be today but the Dr was sick, bummer. Being a teacher, it’s such a pain to schedule and reschedule appointments - but it’ll be worth it!

How are you feeling: so much better that even a week ago. I’m still struggling to find pregnancy pants that for my gender neutral style (khakis mostly), so I’m feeling bummed about that. I know yoga pants and jeggings and dresses work for some (most?) women, but I’m so uncomfortable in my own skin in those types of clothes.

Rants / Raves: why do clothing manufactures insist that women want cold ankles?!? It’s winter in New England, kids, I need pants that cover my whole leg!!

Questions:Places to buy khakis?!? That come all the way to the ground?!?

GTKY: what is your go-to cozy winter meal? Chili spaghetti - specifically from Skyline when I’m home in Ohio or homemade when I’m not!
  • kalesix3 same about the hair in wrong places!!! I’m losing hair from head like crazy, but then have to shave my chin hair more often…ugh haha
  • @monkey_mcfee noooo not Cincinnati chili 😂 my dad used to make it when I was a kid and it was like my worst nightmare (I'm not a fan of chili or any sort of red/meat sauce on spaghetti), but he loved it! I had to cancel an appointment last week because WE were sick and that was a huge bummer. Hopefully you can get in soon for your reschedule! What grade do you teach?

@ReadyForaB headaches are the worst, I'm sorry you're having them! It always sucks to feel like you disappointed your kiddo too. Do you think it's anything in particular triggering them or just pregnancy? Re: NT scans, my impression is that it's pretty 50/50 whether or not you get one/your provider includes it as standard care. You can definitely ask if you're wanting one! I plan to ask my midwife if we have the option for her to order an NT scan or if I'll just have the anatomy scan. I'm not too concerned either way personally, but also not against another chance to see baby.
  • @thescarletmom I am just a migraine sufferer normally so now it is just a matter of not being able to take my medicine.   It stinks.  Yes, my doctor scanned me himself on his crappy machine at almost 12 weeks.  It was by no means an official ultrasound, more of just a peace of mind scan.  However, I guess I am just telling myself he is an OB and if he saw something worrisome he would've said something.  I am just going to let it go.

    BFP September 2022 - Due June 2023!

  • @ReadyForaB right there with you, I have to get off all my migraine medications too when I'm pregnant. Thankfully that isn't too terrible because we haven't really found a drug that works well for me yet, so I only really notice mild differences with and without the imitrex. I'm sorry you're suffering so much without yours! Yeah, my midwife would have to order out for me to get a real deal NT too. Her little handheld ultrasound is just for peace of mind and making sure nothing looks blaringly wrong haha.
  • @thescarletmom ugh I forgot that you're in the same boat with a teeny tiny space and nowhere to go, I'm so sorry that we can both commiserate, it sucks.
I didn't mind our living situation that much before my partner started working from home but he does now and that's one more thing because we're all piled up on top of each other and his meetings are constantly getting in the way of my life and any noise disrupts his work and there's only so many hours a day I can reasonably spend outside because there's nowhere to go with a two year old that doesn't make noise in the house. Like the entire situation isn't good for any of us and I know we all need to be in a house with a yard where all of us can have space to thrive. I think my partner does too but like your husband he's just not motivated at all. The amount of houses I've found for us that are under budget that we can more than afford and he just waves them away because "I'm not paying more for the same house than they paid in 2006". Like dude wake up already okay, prices are never going to be what they were in 2006 and even if they were maybe you should be worrying about losing your job or taking a huge paycut or something. We're paying $2,000 on our lease and that's not including bills, we can afford a house even with bad interest rates so let's hunker down and find something and stop stalling and spend that amount of money on something we own and can change and renovate if need be. I don't care, I just want my own space.
He's lived in the same house his whole life and I was the one who moved around a ton, we've lived where we are 4 years in January and that's the longest I've lived anywhere in.. 12 years? It's nice but I'd like to spend the next 4+ years in our own home.
Our realtor is also such an idiot too which doesn't help. Ugh. I'm definitely stressed about it.

@monkey_mcfee I know a pregnant person who just moved to new England from California and she has the exact same complaint as you, maternity clothes can really suck.
She said H&M and Hatch had a few okay pants and she mainly just buys non maternity and wears a bellyband with them. I'm sorry I can't be more help than that, I hope you can find something that works. I hope the maternity clothing industry becomes a lot more gender neutral in the next few years, everyone deserves clothing that makes them feel comfortable.
My hair falling out is making me so ragey these days haha, I hope it goes away for both of us. I actually have a few chin hairs now and I never did before, my hormones hate me clearly.

@peyts228 isn't it just amazing?!? Now I'm hungry lol.
  • @kalesix3 my husband thankfully isn't delusional enough to think inflation doesn't exist, but it's definitely not something he's motivated to do at all. We've been in our current house 3.5 years and that's been huge for me. I really don't want to move but we've literally got 800 sq ft, and soon to be 5 people and 2 cats. I'd like it to feel like it's at least on the table or like my husband understands the power of equity and generational wealth that comes from owning a home.

I'm sorry him wfh makes your life so much harder too 😞
  • @thescarletmom yesss!! "The power of equity and generation wealth" is so true! You get it!!
  • @thescarletmom Cincinnati chili is my jam! It’s more a pain to make it than worth it sometimes, but I never regret it when I do!
  • @kalesix3 thanks for the commiseration. I have found the belly band a lifesaver!

Team Boy/Girl/Surprise: waiting for results. I think it’s boy. We’ll seee

Interesting baby fact / Baby is the size of: size of a jalapeño pepper!

Upcoming appointments: I go back Dec. 22. And I am anticipating NIPT results this week or next!!

How are you feeling: V tired. Still sick ish from flu 2 weeks ago. And I am 99% I felt baby!! Insane.

Rants / Raves: my littlest is sick with a sinus infection. High fevers and miserable. I have sinus pain/pressure too. Not having a good time over here 😭

Questions: antibiotics while pregnant? Worried I have the sinus infection toooo

GTKY: what is your go-to cozy winter meal? I’m feeling warm Italian dishes like lasagna and egg plant parm, but my tastes constantly change. I’m also trying new meals and don’t really have a go-to.
  • @ReadyForaB I’m paying for the NIPT test, but was not offered an NT scan. I don’t think it’s standard. I wasn’t even ever offered a NIPT test in my prior pregnancies

also, fellow migraine sufferer. I feel like they’ve really picked up recently. Sucks a lot. I’m so sorry your pain has been so bad. Tylenol doesn’t make any difference and that’s all they tell us to take 😭
  • @maddmama fingers crossed you don't get the sinus infection!! Not being able to take anything for the congestion is so terrible. I think antibiotics are okay while pregnant, so long as you really need them. And make sure to take a pre/probiotic during and after! Also I definitely started feeling the flutters too, it's crazy!
  • @thescarletmom I’m definitely going to try and hold out unless I get a bad fever, fudge that!
I’m the type who eats some kimchi or sauerkraut every day for those benefits too 😂❤️
  • edited December 2022
    @thescarletmom @maddmama

okay so you both know by now this is my first rodeo, but I’m also pretty sure I have felt this kiddo move twice now! The first time was last week and the second was this morning- I’m a little over 13 weeks now. It has happened only when I’m laying really still on my back in bed, and it feels like a little flutter near my right side- which is where baby was hanging out yesterday during my appointment when they checked the heartbeat. I just don’t know what I’m looking for, but I feel really really in tune with my body because I practice yoga frequently so I just know I haven’t felt anything like this before lol! I’m going with it being baby though. 🥰
  • @mindfulmomma2022 I felt my first baby around 14 weeks! Before I felt the first fluttters with him, I had someone describe the sensation to me as feeling like a little tiny goldfish flopping around in your belly and I would say that is super accurate. I would say anything above your belly button at this point is certainly a gas bubble/muscle twitch/etc. But if you're feeling a flutter down low/between your hips, especially if that's where you know baby hangs out, it's probably baby! I think you can trust you know your body, FTM or not.
  • @kalesix3 I’m totally lurking here and even I’m getting frustrated with your husband. Home is very important to me and I’ve also been stuck in limbo for so dang long in various short-term places. We’re finally in a home we’ll stay in for maybe a couple more years and the difference in my mental health since we moved here has been huge. I’m sorry he doesn’t understand. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
  • @annemarie96 it's definitely frustrating but helpful to know the peace you feel at being settled, I can't wait to be in that place!
  • @maddmama I was offered the NIPT but I refused it.  and Agree.  I haven't even been taking tylenol because I know it won't work and then I would just be worried about any potential issues that it might cause.  It stinks!
