Weekly randoms 11/30

What's everyone got going on??

Re: Weekly randoms 11/30

  • I'm clearly not working today. Potty training isn't going well. She was doing great at home when we started but she has to wear pull-ups at DC (which is understandable). She just goes in them and now she's just peeing and pooping her pants at home. I don't know what to do. Any advice?

  • We have a snow day today, which surprised me. I’m indifferent about it..I’m happy I don’t have to stand on my feet all day since my hips ache, but then I’m irritated because we will have to make up this day in June. There’s a few inches of snow, but my snow-plow driving husband said he’s not surprised that there’s no school. Luckily it’s his weekend, so we will put up Christmas decorations since we’re both home.

Also, a 1st grader sideswiped my belly yesterday. He was running from someone, and didn’t look where he was going. My belly ached for a little bit, but all seems fine. Baby is active and was probably a little mad that something woke her up.😂

  • @miss_lynn9 not really any advice, just solidarity. my son is basically potty trained at home (except he poops in his diaper almost every morning before I get him 🙄 - he can still poop in the potty if he isn't wearing a diaper, it's those morning poops...) and he doesn't want to use the potty with anyone but me or his dad (he prefers me, but will go with his dad if I'm not there) and I have to sit on the regular toilet. So he wears diapers at daycare. It's so frustrating!
  • @miss_lynn9 is she wearing underwear at home? We still have my son going commando, which might help with his remembering to switch to using the potty at home rather than just going like he has a diaper on. He's been potty training like this since August, with no signs of wanting to even try the regular toilet insert or go potty with anyone else.
  • @cheznet she's wearing pants at home. When she was completely naked, she was using the potty without prompt or needing us. She would just stop, run, and pee or poop then yell out to us saying she did it. With underwear or pants, she just goes in them. I don't want to keep her naked all the time but I might need to.
  • I had a bunch of weird stuff happen today which led me to go in to the midwife office for a check in. Blurry vision, a brutal headache, and numbness in my hands, and no reason for it that they can tell. 🙄 this pregnancy has sucked.

@miss_lynn9 How long has it been going on? Sometimes the answer with toddlers is just repetition and time. My daughter blew all the stated time lines out of the water. We honestly just had to out-stubborn her. Every time: "You had an accident. Pee and poop go in the potty, not in your pants." "No!" "Yes, pee and poop go in the potty." And then we made her help clean up.
  • @muggsd that's scary. Did they order any test or anything?
  • @noxacanthus it's been a couple weeks. We keep saying that too. And she's always very upset that she had an accident.
  • @miss_lynn9 Hmmm. What about skirts as a middle step? They're not quite naked, but feel less like a diaper than pants or underwear.
  • @noxacanthus I don't have skirts for her since it's winter and currently -20c/-4f. I could see if they have any at the second hand store in the size she'll be in summer.
  • @muggsd - Did your vision flash or just get blurry? I had ocular migraines with my 1st and 2nd kids, and it was scary symptoms. But eventually just chalked it up to hormones.
  • @marebear15 it started out as seeing spots that wouldn’t go away, then transitioned to all over blurriness. I’ve never experienced anything like it and it definitely freaked me out!
  • @muggsd That sounds awful. I’m glad it wasn’t anything dangerous (although it sounds completely awful and scary as hell).

Hello charley horse from hell at 1030 pm!! This one made me lol at every previous charley horse I “thought” I had in my life before now. My leg literally is visibly contracted in the weirdest position. Somehow DH is sleeping through all my misery as I shake and attempt to stretch it out.
  • Lots of testing going on for me.. iron is at a all time low, I’m 24 weeks baby was in the 90% a month ago measuring 2.5 weeks ahead. My midwife checked my fundal height this past Thursday and it’s measuring 30 weeks 😳 going for a growth scan Tuesday.

Anyone who is a STM or beyond… when are you planning on starting baby prep like washing clothes and blankets (I kept everything from my first son), setting up the bassinet, etc. ? I don’t want to do it too early but this baby is also measuring a week ahead according to fundal height (and our anatomy scan he was big too) so I just want to be prepared without having everything out already 😅 I don’t even remember when I started last time - plus we have so much toddler stuff but I’d love to start prepping DS for baby too. He was early so I know this one will be too!!
  • @mamahosch I've started organizing putting all of the boxes of things in one spot. I plan to start washing and organizing clothes and bedding probably a month or so before baby is due. It will probably take some time with how low energy I have lol

@mamahosch We just moved my older daughter out of the nursery over Thanksgiving. Today we spent about an hr in there, mostly emptying out the dresser and the closet (bonus, we kept finding surprise stuff in bigger sizes for her). Realized we don't have the right size hex wrench to move the crib back to newborn height (how did we get it down to toddler height in the first place??). That sort of thing. We're probably not going to start washing/unpacking new baby things until after the holidays. I'm also not due til the end of March so we have a bit more time. Also my daughter was hella late (induced at 41 weeks with zero effacement or dilation) and this current baby is measuring small/late.
  • @mamahosch we’re setting up everything in the dresser and sheets and such now, but I’ll wash everything in late January. Daughter was 3 weeks early, so I’m planning on needing things done by February just in case!
  • @mamahosch - We're going into full babymode the month of January. Things on my list are paint DS's bedroom, move him in, potty train DD2, and get rid of pacis for both of them. After that, I'm just going to do a load of laundry for my newborn stuff and pack it in the drawers. I'm expecting to give birth by the middle of February.
  • @mamahosch I have 2 more rooms to paint before the nursery is set up - I’ll probably end up getting things set up in there by the end of Jan/beginning of feb. But I’ve only ever been 3 days early so I’m not too worried about baby arriving before I’m ready!
  • @mamahosch currently my nursery is a storage space for all the furniture/things from the living room as we are getting new floors. Crossing my fingers those will be gone before the end of this month. We’re doing it all ourselves and my husband just found out he had to travel for work next week. Hopefully January will bring time to get the nursery in shape, crib put together and oh yeah I should probably get some baby clothes since I have none 😂 Doctor hinted last appointment that baby may have to be induced early because of gestational diabetes and high BP so I’m hoping to get clarification on that this week.
  • Things tend to get crazy for us work-wise in January so we’re trying to get the whole nursery pretty much completely set up minus clothes before the end of the month. We close our office every year for two weeks for Christmas/new years so hopefully it’s enough time. My parents are coming over this week to help us build furniture and paint the walls and stuff which I’m really thankful for. I’m pretty overwhelmed on where to start. I always joke to my mom though that she should be a professional organizer so I know she’ll arrive with tons of ideas. We have two long haired cats that shed on everything so im going to be pretty last minute on washing all the linens and clothes - probably not until March.
