Preeclampsia Watch

Hi friends! At my 29 week appointment, my urine test came back with +1 protein. I’m already on preeclampsia precautions due to family history, this is my first pregnancy so we are just being extra careful and taking daily baby aspirin since we don’t know if it will also impact me. I was delivered at 30 weeks due to my mothers preeclampsia.

My question is what feelings or symptoms should I be on alert for? My OB did not seem overly concerned about the protein since I have no swelling/water retention, low/normal BP, and no other symptoms currently. If anyone had preeclampsia with a former pregnancy, what signs did you notice first? I don’t want to scare my mom by asking her about it since this is the week in pregnancy she got sick with me! 😣

@kkaiser64 I am also on P watch, taking the low-dose aspirin, due to a history of high BP and age (39). Common symptoms to watch for:
    • Excess protein in urine or other signs of kidney problems
    • Severe headaches
    • Changes in vision, including temporary loss of vision, blurred vision or light sensitivity
    • Shortness of breath, caused by fluid in the lungs
    • Pain in the upper belly, usually under the ribs on the right side
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Sudden swelling, usually in face and/or hands
Feeling fine so far (34 weeks) but it's smart to know the symptoms. Good luck to you!

  • Thank you! Hoping you make it through to your due date too 💙
  • @kkaiser64 I developed pre-eclampsia in my first pregnancy but not til closer to the end and delivered at exactly 37 weeks. Only symptom I really was experiencing were migraines which I frequently have anyways and then my BP started spiking. It got so high they sent me to hospital for observation and that’s when they found the protein in the urine. I’m being monitored extra close this time since I’m higher risk and much more likely to develop again. Good luck!
  • @jzajac06 thank you so much for sharing! Good luck to you too 💙
  • Thank you so much for posting this. I’ve been on watch too. I also had protein in my urine but my doctor wasn’t concerned yet, and yesterday I started getting sporadic pain in my rib cage. I called
my doctor freaking out. They said it’s possible it’s just the baby kicking me in the ribs.
  • It definitely makes you question every little thing!
  • @jzajac06 I'm currently going through this right now. My BP spiked out of no where this week and they just ran tests to check my urine as well. I go in on Monday to get results and see if I'm bringing home a baby or not.
