1st Trimester

Week 6 - what to do to prep for 1st trimester?

Hi everyone! I'm heading into my 6th week and have been lucky with no symptoms yet. I like to be prepared and was wondering what I should plan for or buy now to help me be better prepared for the coming weeks of the 1st trimester? what do you wish you had on hand instead of having to run out and get for those a bit further along in the 1st trimester? TIA and congrats to everyone!

  • You are in your 1st trimester.  If you are doing fine, then continue on found what you are doing.  The only thing I needed to change was Tylenol rather than ibuprofen.  Besides that there is nothing to "prepare" you for 1st tri.  Maybe some comfy adjustable pants??

  • I don't think there's much you can do. Nausea was the overwhelming feeling of my first trimester, but you don't know what's going to work for you until you do. I bought emesis bags because l drive a lot for work so I wanted something in case I had to puke RIGHT NOW and I was in the car... I didn't puke once do that was a waste, though it was comforting to know I had a bag right next to me if I needed it. I also bought saltines and kept them in my car... I had some, but I'm now 34 weeks and just took the remaining half box out of my car; they weren't the miracle people say. I already owned sea bands, but they didn't do anything for me.

Aside from that, I did need various things to help control the nausea, but it seems it's all individual... I could only drink things that were ice cold, so an insulated water bottle was crucial (other people can only tolerate room temperature, or it doesn't matter at all). Apple juice and cashews were safe snacks to not upset my tummy, but that doesn't work for everyone. Wintergreen lifesavers were great for me when the nausea was overwhelming to knock it back, but I have a coworker on her first trimester who throws up at the smell or taste of mint (toothbrushing has been a learning curve for her!). A friend recommended smelling a lemon to help with the nausea- that did nothing or made it worse. So eventually, if you do have nausea, you'll figure out what works for you, but it doesn't make sense to prepare now when you don't know what'll make it better or worse. Vitamin B6 is a pretty universal recommendation by providers, and then recommended dose was smaller than I could get in stores, so that's the one thing that night make sense to find out and get a bottle off Amazon so you don't have to wait if you need it.
