Trying to Get Pregnant

WTO and TWW- Week of 11/7

The WTO and TWW threads are temporarily combined until we rebuild a large enough community to merit their separation. In the meantime, please use this as a space to chat about the day-to-day, commiserate about the challenges and laugh about the comedies of TTC, and to keep track of your own shifting feelings about this process. Please be aware that this community does not do symptom spotting (studies, as well as our own collective experience here, have repeatedly shown that the only meaningful symptom of pregnancy is a positive HPT). We also try to keep this thread a safe space for all regardless of where they are in their TTC, so please be mindful about references to past success, as well as of losses. Where necessary to the conversation, we encourage a TW and to use a spoiler.

Re: WTO and TWW- Week of 11/7

  • I hope it's ok I started the thread this week!

Status (WTO, TWW, benched, etc.): WTO

    Month/Cycle: Cycle 5 (or 6?)

CD (/DPO if applicable): CD11- should be ovulating any day but OPKs still negative.

What's coming up? (FW, testing, etc.): Hopefully a positive OPK (I typically O on CD 11 so...)

R/R: My OPKs are almost non-existent! I keep waiting for them to get darker and, nada! Also, I've been temping and it's going good, but I wake up several times at night thinking it's time to temp. I think I'm a bit over-enthusiastic lol

CS/Q: How quick do you go from low to peak? My peak seems to happen really quickly so I'm testing 2-3 times a day right now.
  • Loading the player...
  • @sunshine134 thanks for starting it! I'm a very slow riser. I usually can tell a day or 2 before I'm going to get a positive OPK, and then it stays positive for a few days.

Status (WTO, TWW, benched, etc.): TWW

Month/Cycle: uh no clue anymore. Month 20/10 AL I think

CD (/DPO if applicable): 15/1 DPO

What's coming up? (FW, testing, etc.): 2 cycles in a row now post fertility treatments that I've O'd right on time.

R/R: My H and I had a really fun weekend..wink wink..if you know what I mean. lol. But last night right at the end I started cramping horribly. I'm not sure if it was ovulation cramping or my body was just like 'that's enough! no more!' meh, feeling kinda heavy/sore ovaries today as well.

    CS/Q:  nope.

    TTC History:
    Me: 36 H: 40 Married 2015. Together since 2010.

Status (WTO, TWW, benched, etc.): WTO / benched. I was going to try and fly down to continue the House Science Project, but now I have to attend a military ball, so.... not so much.
    Month/Cycle: 5/6
    CD (/DPO if applicable): 6
What's coming up? (FW, testing, etc.): Going to practice OPK again this cycle.
R/R: I'm fairly certain I threw off my cycle with my Covid vaccine, which is a bummer but I'd like to never get Covid given how badly I react to just the vaccine, so that's fine. However, this weekend I learned that 2023 is going to be insane with training for the Army, so maybe that's okay we weren't successful. Feb 23 is when The Board sits to review my commissioning packet to be an officer, April-July I'll be in school for my enlisted path (and will likely find out of I'm an officer or not while I'm there... haha), then if the commission works out, August - Dec '23 I may be back in training for the officer path. I'm fairly sure I can't be pregnant for any of that, so I may be looking a being benched for quite a while. I'm a little worried I'll be trying to conceive at 40 if I wait until this passes, but one of my good friends is also trying and she's a little older. The reason we both waited so long is because of our careers, anyway. (Lawyer, doctor, etc.)

  • @sunshine134 My OPK usually have a light pink test line in the days leading up to peak, and then I get 1-3 days of positives where the lines look the same. I rarely catch the "true" peak where the test line is darker than the control. I only test once a day so maybe I miss it?

@bearmomma1 Sounds like a great weekend! I have an ovary that has a history of making large cysts (benign and physiologic, just painful), and I get that heavy swollen aching feeling on that side in the days right around ovulation each month. I rarely ovulate from the other side, so I always feel like maybe it's working overtime? I hope it's a positive sign that your body is doing it's thing without medication!

    Status (WTO, TWW, benched, etc.):
    O time

Month/Cycle: I'm never sure how to count this. 16 months trying to make a baby, but we weren't trying that whole time. Second cycle back TTCAL.

CD (/DPO if applicable): CD12. Based on OPKs I think I am ovulating today.

What's coming up? (FW, testing, etc.): TWW time. Acupuncture tomorrow.

R/R: I seem to be ovulating very early this month. I am usually closer to CD14/15/16, but I had a blazing positive OPK yesterday morning at CD11, and negative today at CD12. I also had a very hot weekend with the hubby, so the timing couldn't be better. Will try to get one more in tonight if we can. I LOL'd when we saw my OBGYN last week and she suggested to have sex every other day instead of every day. Seriously, we're almost 40 with busy personal and professional lives, in what world were we going to have sex every day?! Who has time for that?

CS/Q: Is ovulating earlier in your cycle a problem? I know each woman is different, but it's very unusual for me and I'm wondering if my egg will even be ready so early?
  • @bearmomma1 sounds like a really fun weekend! Fingers crossed for you.

@nicmkw that all sounds exciting and very complicated! I hope you have clarity in your decision and get your BFP at the right time. You should be very proud doing all that training!

@maggiemadeit I'm an early ovulator, which I find kind of nice because I'm not waiting so long. Although, I also get AF every 25 days, so that kind of sucks. I can't answer based on my experience because I have not got my BFP, but from the information I read early ovulation is fine and doesn't affect egg quality. There is more research about late ovulation (after CD30 or so) being an issue for egg quality. I don't think it will have an effect. Fingers crossed for you- we should be close to cycle twins if I O soon!
  • I have a question. In the Newbie post, it says that someone may ovulate even if they don't get a positive OPK. Can anyone tell me more about that? I'm temping too, so I don't think I have, but I'm curious about this. Thanks!
  • @sunshine134 I think that you can still ovulate even if you don’t ever get a positive OPK, because OPK are not a perfect system and it is easy to miss the peak of LH.

You might not get a positive OPK just because of timing, or maybe if you drank a lot and your pee was too diluted to see a positive. LH levels are also individual. I think most OPK tests measure a positive somewhere around 25 units, but some people might have slightly lower levels and never get a true positive, even if they ovulate.

I think if you are temping you will be able to confirm ovulation after the fact regardless of the OPK result, it’s just that OPK are so handy to predict ovulation and get your BD timing right.
  • Hi All- wondering if someone can help me interpret my chart. My OPKs are lows (but increasing), but looking at my BBT it seems to indicate I already O'd. Thoughts?
  • *lurkylurk from the depths of infertility* @sunshine1234 my best guess is that you ovulated on CD 14. OPKs are kind of an art not a science in that not every woman pumps out the same amount of luteinizing hormone before ovulation so not everyone turns a blazing positive test, and sometimes you miss the absolute peak (which can happen quickly) etc. your day 14 test is what i would call borderline positive. BBT rise can (sometimes) happen immediately before, immediately after, or up to 2-3 days after ovulation, and the relationship between these two things can vary from cycle to cycle. so, while keeping track of your OPKs and keeping track of BBT can usually narrow down your plausible O days just just 1 or 2, it's still a bit of a guessing game. it's also feasible that you've not O'ed yet, and your BBT rise is a fluke. in which case you'll likely see it drop again right before O. but my money is still on cd14.
    History
I am doing this on my own. Left ovary and fallopian tube removed due to cyst/necrosis just after birth. Right ovary and tube still purport to function.
Began TTC in Aug '18 @ age 35
5 or 6 (or 7?!) cycles using frozen donor sperm, ICI. All BFN
    Mar-Jun '19 IUIs, all BFN
Began process of referral for RE in spring of '19, blood tests confirm low AMH (.54) but all else is good.
May '19 HSG shows open tube, but ultrasound suggests fibroids
MRI in June '19 confirms two large fibroids, one growing through wall of uterus
In June '19 I move from California to Oregon, disrupting my insurance, referrals, etc. 5 months spent piecing it all back together.
Nov. '19 attempted myomectomy (vaginal approach) failed. 2nd surgery using laparoscopic method in Jan '20 is successful.
April '20 --> June '20, natural IUIs, all BFN.
July? saline ultrasound and bubble test demonstrate open tube
July '20 clomid cycle cancelled for thin lining
Aug-Oct, 3 femara cycles, all BFN
RE referral. While waiting to set up an appointment Nov-Jan,I continue with natural cycles and ICI, using a known donor, BFN...
Jan '21 more bloodwork, AMH is worse (.30), FSH high albeit not catastrophic at 13.2. hysteroscopy all good. "looks cozy!" says the RE.
Feb '21, injectables (menopur, novarel), iui, BFN (doc said the frozen donor sperm sample had the "best numbers she'd ever seen!")
Mar '21, injectables, iui cancelled due to lack of follicles, converted to at home-insem. BFN
May '21, first IVF round cancelled due to cyst.
July '21 IVF: standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 7; 6 days of stims. 8 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilize, 4 made it to blast. 3 are 4AB, 1 is 4BB. PGT-A results all abnormal.
Oct '21 somewhat improved AMH (.51) and significantly improved FSH (8.9). Maybe it's all the pills I swallow.
    Dec -21, standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 5; 11 days of stims. retrieval yields 5, 4M, 2 reach day-6 blast (4AB & 4BB). 1 low-level mosaic (chr. 3 deletion), 1 complex abnormal.
Feb '22 FET (low-level mosaic): CP.
May '22 egg retrieval, lupron flare protocol. HGH priming for 1 month before stims; md lupron 20/20u daily; menopur 225, follistim 225, 10k trigger after 8 days of stims; AFC 10; 13 retrieved; 10 mature; 8 fertilized. All frozen at 2PN for later thaw, grow, and biopsy.
July '22 egg retrieval same protocol: 9 days of stims; AFC 8; 10 retrieved, 8 mature, 4 fertilized and frozen.
Sept '22 ER same protocol: AFC 10; 12 retrieved, 11 mature, 11 fertilized.
From the 3 retrievals, 7 survived to day 5-6 blastocyst, from which I have 2 normal embryos!
Jan 20, Fully medicated FET, baby aspirin, dexamethasone, acupuncture, and as much woo as I can stand (which isn't very much). BFN.
July 23, Natural FET + baby aspirin. BFN.
  • @optimistgardener thank you so much for the reply! I really appreciate it. I was thinking CD 14 too so I'm glad to have your insight. Sending you all the positive vibes!
