Pregnancy after miscarriage

Last year I had a missed miscarriage when we went for the ultrasound baby was only 5 weeks 5 days but my body continued to think it was pregnant.
Now I'm pregnant again and terrified my ultrasound is coming up this Monday and I worry it will be the same outcome !
My symptoms this time are more extra then last pregnancy which is a great sign but still doesn't help my brain from worrying
Has anyone experienced this before ?

Re: Pregnancy after miscarriage

  • The reality is that there's nothing you can do either way.  You are pregnant now and the only way to get through PG after MC is to be grateful every day that you are PG, whether that lasts 6 weeks, 10 weeks, or full term.

I've been through what you have, except I'm not the success story you are looking for.  I've had 5 MCs and no living children.  My first PG was a missed MC.  However, I will tell you that statistically speaking, I am an anomaly and that chances are MUCH MUCH higher that your second PG will turn out fine and that you will have nothing to worry about.  I've seen many more cases where people have 1 MC (sometimes an early 2nd CP), and then go on to have a healthy PG and child.  Only a few individuals end up having RPL.  So take hope in the fact that you are PG today and that stats are on your side.  And if for some reason, things don't go that way and you end up being an anomaly, there are a few of us who have also suffered traumatically and we are here and available to help you through it.

October 2015 - 1st MC.  7-8 weeks along. Suspected molar PG, but luckily just a MMC.

    Feb 2017 - 4th MC: 6 weeks

RE 2: More tests. Still 'unexplained.'  Called fat for an entire hour-long appointment, cried a lot

    Feb 2019 - 5th MC: 6-7 weeks

  • Hi. I clicked on this thread while during my two week wait. 7 IUIs and 2 IVF transfers. Donor sperm. On 7th IUI this round. Hoping to not do IVF again, but we’ll soon find out. 8dpo. I’ve had one miscarriage. The pregnancy was the result of my 2nd IVF transfer. Placental abruption/subchorionic hematoma at 7w1d. I went to the ER upon bleeding. The ultrasound showed a heartbeat but there was no hope. It had detached. First ever pregnancy.

I have a cousin that I found out about a few years ago. My mom is adopted and did a DNA test. Found out some health information.  That cousin preached to me about going on a blood thinner while undergoing fertility treatment and during pregnancy. We both are heterozygous for Factor V. Usually no big deal. She seems to think having the variant caused her to have 8 miscarriages. Once she finally convinced her doctor to give Lovenox a try, she had two back to back healthy pregnancies. She said that she could see the embryo detaching on one of the ultrasounds during an earlier miscarriage before it finally detached. I did not take her advice the first go around. I regret it. What I am getting at is have you ever been tested for Factor V? It is more common that one would imagine. It could be an explanation for RPL.
  • @jwest0605 Yes, I had a Factor V test (and a slew of other RPL tests).  I'm still listed as Unexplained Recurrent Pregnancy Loss.  Totally sucks.  I don't regret having testing done, as at least I know I'm not losing baby after baby for something that can be identified and worked around, but it really sucks having no answers. :disappointed:
