I am in the first trimester. I ate paneer cheese at an Indian restaurant without thinking. The restaurant said after they didn’t know if it was pasteurized or not and didn’t make it in house. Am I at high risk for listeria?
I wouldn’t stress about it- I’ve inadvertently eaten a handful of “risky” foods and it’s been fine. Also, was the paneer cooked? If so, even less risky!
I think so. Here’s a pic. The red is from the sauce but it looks like it has some browning from frying? The browning isn’t all over the cheese but I don’t know if it needs to be.
You should be just fine. And honestly, our chances of contracting listeria from these high-risk foods are still quite low. I’ve absent-mindedly had cold pressed juice, raw deli meat, unpasteurized cheese… and no listeria. It’s all about calculated risk- and the risk is still pretty low. I wouldn’t stress too much about little absent minded moments like this. Some pregnant women will take their chances and eat riskier foods on a regular basis- and it more often than not turns out just fine. I still try to be careful, but I don’t beat myself up about it if it happens. I hope the Indian food was delicious!
