Safe Swaddling

So I have a question. When is swaddling unsafe? I know when baby is rolling onto their tummy that swaddling is out, but what if they roll to their side? Is it necessary to stop swaddling at that point? My baby has rolled to his side since the very beginning. My pediatrician said it was safe for him to sleep on his side as long as he put himself there, but didn’t tell me if swaddling was still okay at that point?

Re: Safe Swaddling

  • ANY signs of rolling means it's time to stop swaddling. If he's rolling into his side, be can easily topple over to his tummy, but he can't get back to clear his airway if his face is down. Having access to his hands/arms will help him to move his head if necessary. And if you find him on his tummy, move him to his back. So it sounds like swaddling for sleep is not safe for your little one at this time.
