41 and first pregnancy-low progesterone at 5 weeks

Hi all,
So I am 41, this is my first pregnancy and it was natural. I am 5 weeks now. Dr. Had me come in during week for for bloodwork. Hcg level was normal for about 4-5 weeks, but my progestrone level was really low like 5.62. I’m going back in for bloodwork today but wont know anything until thursday. I’m really nervous. Has anyone had any experience with this, or had successful pregnancies despite low progesterone levels at 4 weeks? Thanks

Whenever that happened to me they would prescribe progesterone to take daily. Then I was able to quit during the second trimester.

  • Yes! I know lots of people who have needed progesterone support in early pregnancy. You can take suppositories or injections for the first trimester to keep those levels up. Hang in there, Momma!
  • Hi! I’m also 41 and have had low progesterone through this pregnancy. I’m currently 12w6 today, I had an ultrasound this afternoon and the baby is doing well. I’ve been taking a progesterone supplement orally since getting a positive test. I’m supposed to stop taking it in about 2 weeks, I’m a little nervous but the midwives and the MFM both tell me it will be fine so that’s where I’m at. You probably need a little supplementation for the first trimester too
