Group B Strep

in 3rd Trimester
I tested positive for group B strep and I’m allergic to amoxicillin/penicillin. Feeling super nervous now. Anyone else have this happen?

    Not personally, but there are other antibiotics you can take, including ancef, which is pretty well tolerated and very low risk. 

    Truthfully most people who think they are allergic to amoxicillin or penicillin truly aren’t, but labor isn’t the time to test you out. You have options. Don’t worry!

    My sister was GBS pos during pregnancy and also allergic to penicillin and they gave her vancomycin.

    I had GBS with my first pregnancy and I am allergic to amoxicillin. I reminded my doctor and she had them test different medications against my strain and, luckily because the first choice wouldn’t have helped, a medication was found. It wasn’t a big deal at all and he is a happy and healthy almost 7yo now!
