1st Trimester

Food aversion tips?

Hi all, I'm very early into pregnancy (4w3d) and while I'm not experience any nausea/vomiting yet, I'm finding that nothing sounds or looks good to eat and therefore I'm really not eating enough. Anybody have any tips/tricks or experiencing anything similar?

I was pretty sick for most of my first and second trimester.  I started drinking Ensure with protein and fruit smoothies.  Having those to drink seemed to trick my brain, so even if nothing sounded good to eat, I could still be sure to get some calories and  some nutrition.  I also ate a lot of crackers and ginger ale.

I hope you feel better soon!

Edited to add: Later on in my second and third trimester, I had a strong meat aversion.  We ate a lot of burgers and tacos, since the meat flavor and texture could be hidden by toppings.  Just a possible thought.

  • Thank you! I'll try some smoothies :)
  • If you have the money to change up your groceries a little bit and follow any whim your body has it could help. I tend to feel like nothing sounds good at all, but it’s almost like I forget I could technically have fun things for lunch. Curry or nachos or random seasonings will suddenly sound good and I will devour it and realize I definitely was hungry! And don’t worry toooo much about nutrition, as long as you’re eating. You absolutely have to eat. I keep feeling light heading and almost passed out from not eating for a few hours!
Try eating whatever the heck you want. Bacon, pancakes, whatever it is. Don’t automatically limit yourself to your normal menu.
    Just what works for me!
  • Also, if you invest in a really good quality multivitamin that you can always get down with no nausea this will all go so much more smoothly and you can at least rest assured that you have that nutrition every single day. Gummies seem to work better for most people and I love Mary Ruth’s liquid multivitamin, sometimes mixed with juice.
