Weekly Randoms 10/17

Re: Weekly Randoms 10/17

  • I’m at the office and someone’s doing construction work on the floor below me and ohhh my god. I can’t hear myself think. The whole building is shaking, at one point I left my desk because I thought the steel beam above my head would fall down. Truly a Monday.

  • @etnyah I think that warrants some WFH days! Hope the construction doesn't last too long
  • @etnyah wow. That sucks!  I would definitely ask to work from home if that's possible!

@iiirene omg lucky!  I'm jealous!  I feel like i haven't seen my friends (or had sushi!) In forever!!!!!  Most of my friends (Except 2) don't have kids so they don't understand how impossible it is to find time.  They are all awesome though, and I miss them!
  • @etnyah OMG that reminded me of a completely repressed memory: When I was in labor with my son (which ended up being a traumatic birth for other reasons), there was massive construction going on directly below us at the hospital. The walls were shaking from jack-hammering! It was so awful, and just the cherry on top of an already horrific experience.
  • @shoogapoff oh wow.  That's definitely the least relaxing background noise I can think of!  Not conducive to helping labor and delivery at all.  I'm sorry!
  • @shoogapoff oh nooooo! That’s horrible! And in that situation it’s not like you can just run away or take a break either like I did. I’m so sorry that happened to you!

  • Venting!

Last night we told our girls about the pregnancy - we gave them shirts that said "Big Sister" and "Big Sister Again" my 6 year old is ELATED, my 3 year old pretends to be but really doesn't fully grasp what it means just yet. Anyway, we took a really cute video of telling them and then I sent it out to my entire side of the family (separate texts - huge family & didn't want the first person to watch the video to spoil the news by replying all) anyway- I copied my husband on all of them so he could see everyone's reactions etc as I wanted him to be a part of it (we usually announce in person but logistics don't' really align for that).... fast forward to today - I tell him he has to tell his family (our girls go to preschool together and my 3 year old was telling her class about the baby, so I wanted my SIL to find out from us, not from her daughter at pickup) so I tell him he has to tell everyone. He sent the video to all of his family and didn't even copy me!! Not like I'm carrying the baby or anything!? WTF. I'm so annoyed.

  • @MsBeachNJ wow that's super frustrating!  To be honest, my husband would probably do the same thing, though.  Some men just aren't very thoughtful when it comes to stuff like this.
  • Had my 16 week checkup today and met my OB for the first time, so far I’ve only seen a nurse. We clicked right away, she’s great! She’s highly recommended by several moms in my local FB parent group too so I’m sticking with her.

Also got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! I realized I’ve only seen it on a screen until now. Amazing.

I’ve also gained way more weight than I thought already lol. A lot more than what’s recommended, whoops. It’s all in the last 4 weeks as well, I gained zero in the first trimester since I was puking so much.

  • @etnyah yay for hearing the heartbeat!  I have also gained weight.  More than I hoped.  With my son I barely gained any.  This time I'm basically already where I was when I gave birth to him!  Yikes.

@iiirene that is such a cute craft!  Did you have to cut the wood or did you find a kit somewhere?
  • @scaredunprepared thanks! I cut the wood. My dad got me a jigsaw for Christmas last year. I like wooden toys but they’re so stinkin expensive so I just make what I can.

@scaredunprepared with my son my weight gain was slow and steady so it was definitely quite a shock that I’ve already gained so much! In total I ended up gaining slightly more than the recommended amount last time. My pre-preg weight is considered underweight so I’m technically supposed to gain more, but I’m like 1/3 there already lol. All in one month.

I also don’t think I look much different now than pre-pregnancy, besides the small belly. It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out over the next few months.

  • @iiirene those are so cute!
  • @iiirene wow that's awesome.  Good for you!
  • @etnyah I feel this in my soul.  Our 3 (almost 4 year) old does the same thing!  She literally will do ANYTHING to delay bedtime.
