@megwhit86 While I’m not sure how often you should use a home Doppler, I’m using mine every other day or so for just a few minutes. It keeps me sane lol.
Anyone else in the market for a new vehicle? We will soon be looking for a new SUV that will fit two car seats and a dog crate (in addition to luggage and our Vista). Curious what others are considering factors in their decision making criteria.
We are currently weighing: - hybrid or regular (will technology improve significantly or become cheaper in the next 5 years to make a move now being silly?) - 3rd row likely?
- If not a 3rd row, would it be less expensive in the long run to board our dog every time we go visit family (dog is 12 and family lives 4 hours away) - buy new and potentially resell in a few years when the market hopefully comes back (used prices are similar for some vehicles or not far off to make it worth it)
Anyone else? 😊 Or anyone go through this recently?
@ladyofarlington we’re looking for a new vehicle too! Thinking hybrid SUV. We currently have a tiny sedan (Toyota Corolla) and it will definitely not fit a family of four.
Full disclosure: I don’t drive, I don’t even have a license, so I have NO IDEA what we’re looking for. But hybrid SUV is what my H thinks makes sense, I trust his judgement. Eventually I will get my license and the new car will be “my” cat while he drives the sedan.
I don’t know if we should buy before baby or wait and see if prices go down, technically we could make do with our current car only but it would be hard. My H uses it for work and needs the backseat storage space that would now be completely occupied by car seats.
We don’t have pets and will be done after two kids, but it would be nice to be able to fit an extra person or two in there as well.

@ladyofarlington we wanted a 3rd row SUV so we purchased the Kia Telluride about a year ago - we LOVE it, tons of space, captains chairs then a 3rd row bench that's easy to go up & down for more trunk space. We did have to pay markup on the MSRP because dealer stock was so low, 2 other couples showed up trying to buy the vehicle while we were signing the papers because they had so few in our state at the time. Only thing I'd change is that we got the rear entertainment system and I don't think it was worth the extra $$ because there is no in car wifi, we had to purchase our own, and it also requires headphones to use, things that if we had really researched about it we would have just opted for the kids to use their tablets for long drives. Hope that helps!
Hi ladies! I have a question. After a completely horrible experience at my OB today, after already being on the fence about them, I am switching. But the midwife said something to me today that I am unsure of. Because I have a higher BMI, she said from 16 weeks to 36 weeks I should take a low dose aspirin every day. Is this something anyone has experience with?
@ipkorte I am AMA (40) so my doctor recommended that after the first Tri I do this as well. It is apparently widely recommended these days (I googled) but not until after first tri.
Have many people told their jobs/bosses yet? My school is within a school district but is a stand alone preschool so we don’t have a principal. I rarely see any members of our leadership team so I’m wondering if I should just email them? I’ve only worked here since August so I’m a bit nervous. I’m also worried they won’t have a sub for me and my coteacher will end up having do to twice the work.
@iiirene I told my work. They're actually the only people I've told. But I'm a therapist, and we recently had a few other therapists leave, so they're trying to transfer those clients to people. I didn't want to have someone transfer to me, and then need to transfer again in 6 months. So I told my bosses so they could factor that into their decisions. But my work is very supportive, and they know about my past infertility, so they're so thrilled I was able to get pregnant again.
@iiirene I told work two weeks ago. They’re very supportive, we recently had an influx of new clients and I needed to let them know why I was reluctant to take on new ones currently. Also, my boss told me he really wants me to take on a management type role in my department (a role that currently doesn’t exist but is needed), so I’m glad they didn’t start any immediate plans with that! I really don’t want a management role either so I’m just going to kick that can down the road for a while…

@ipkorte my OB told me today (12 weeks) to start taking low dose aspirin because of my starting weight and age (36). Not with either previous pregnancy though.
@iiirene my school district is rather large, so I'll tell Human Resources "soon". My content supervisor (district-wide) is a jerk, and my building supervisor changes so frequently I don't think he knows my name, so I'll let the news trickle to them. We are also already short 10ish math teachers district-wide, so I know there is little hope of getting a long term sub. I assume they will pull the only AIS teacher, after she comes back from maternity leave in March, ironically, but that is a problem way above my pay grade. I'm also tenured with 15 years in, 6 in my district, so I'm able to be a bit more flippant about the whole thing.
I have not told work yet - and I don't intend to until after my 20 week anatomy scan. Being over 40 (TRIGGER WARNING - with a previous history of loss ) END TW. I am anxious about sharing more publicly until after that - I work full time from home, so its not like they will be able to tell in advance of that.
I also WFH full-time (it's been such a blessing), and have not yet told work I'm expecting. Our team is very close, and have been planning an in-person get together before Halloween, at which point I know I'll have to tell them (between not drinking, and the fact I'm starting to show more and more). I want to give my boss a heads up before then so she isn't shocked, but I'm on the fence about telling her next week during a 1:1 meeting that's already been scheduled.....It almost feels too early, but we are technically in the second trimester by then...
+1 to WFH full time, although I typically have 1-2 trips per year. I have not yet told my boss.
I met my new team for the first time in person last month, just shy of 10 weeks and already in maternity pants. I wore loose blouses and had a few small sips of wine at the work dinner and I don’t think anyone noticed.
Debating when to share and whether or not to wait for the anatomy scan or share sooner. I just recently took on supporting a team that my boss previously supported and imagine she may need to be looped back in when I go out on maternity leave (eek) or find alternate coverage. May wait just a little while longer so it seems like I’ve been in that role longer and the leaders of the new team aren’t frustrated. I know it’s not “my problem” and more a feeling of possible perceptions but such is life.
@ladyofarlington DH and I did the whole car shopping thing before baby #1 came along (literally weeks before he was born). Ultimately we decided to lease a vehicle bc this was right when that whole catalytic converter stuff was starting 🤪 so car shopping was a nightmare--stock was low and prices were high. And we had a feeling that by the time our lease is up, we would be ready for something larger. We went with a Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. I like it but we will definitely need something bigger when this lease is up!!! 2 car seats will fit (and somebody can squeeze in the middle seat still if needed) and our Bernese Mountain Dog can ride in the trunk, but obviously this only works if we are doing a day trip with no stroller or large bags. I definitely like the hybrid though. I live in a small rural town so all my errands are about a 30+ mile drive each way. I can go just about 3 weeks on 1 tank of gas, which is nice. I do think the technology will continue to improve but I wouldn't let that stop me from buying a hybrid now, just my 2 cents
Anyone else's doctor recommend a whole bunch of additional supplements, on top of the prenatal? Unsure if it is because I am AMA (40) but yesterday the Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist at the hospital recommended I add (in addition to prenatal)
Vitamin D (1,000) Vitamin C Iron Omega 3 Baby aspirin (this one I am not surprised at).
Curious if anyone else has had these recommendations and if so, what brands/dosages you're going with?
@MsBeachNJ interesting! What prenatal do you take? Wondering if it lacks some of those vitamins. I know most gummy prenatals lack iron. My prenatal has omega 3 DHA added to it already. And I was taking a vitamin D supplement before finding out I was pregnant, bc I was still nursing my son so I just continued with it after weaning (mostly bc I live in the rainy PNW where vitamin D deficiency is definitely a thing as we start moving into rainy season 🙃)
@nsk489 he didn't even ask, to know what levels would be in it! I take One a Day Womens Prenatal +DHA - I have taken it with all of my pregnancies, its the only one that doesn't make me queasy!
@MsBeachNJ I would *think* if you're already taking a prenatal with DHA you wouldn't need an omega 3 supplement. I feel like that is a lot of unnecessary supplements (unless your bloodwork has shown you are deficient in any of those areas) but I'm interested to see what others have to say!
@jesslynnkess yes! I’m 15 weeks and I’ve been feeling something since around halfway through week 13. It’s not very often and barely there, but I do feel some movement. I’m shocked, it took so long for me to feel anything last time so I definitely wasn’t expecting to feel anything so soon.

@MsBeachNJ I started baby aspirin and my midwife recommended iron early on (pescatarian/veggie diet). I take the pink stork 20 mg gummies but pills probably taste better and I’ll likely switch. I was going to ask my midwife about C & D since it’s cold season and I already had a nasty cold in September and want to see if Vitamin C helps. Not sure if you live in an area where light decreases in the winter but that’s why I am considering vitamin D.
@MsBeachNJ I'm going to start taking baby aspirin, magnesium, vit c, calcium, dha, and dandelion root after 1st tri (so in 2 days for me) because I had pre-eclampsia with my first baby. My midwife gave me that list of supplements as standard pre-e prevention. 🤷🏻♀️
@MsBeachNJ I have been using Vitamin d, magnesium, and iron in addition to my prenatal. Also started baby aspirin week 14. The vitamins are my preference not suggested by my ob though.
I had fainted for the first time yesterday and through tests the doctors had taken they were concerned about a blot clot in my lung. (It was negative, thankfully) They said at this stage in my pregnancy (15 weeks) that a chest CT scan has a very low chance of harming the fetus or my pregnancy. I signed the form saying I understood the risks such as miscarriage and malformations, but now I'm very anxious and on edge that something is gonna go wrong. Have any of you ever had a ct scan during pregnancy or know any statistics to put my mind at ease??
@firsttimema08 yes. I was hospitalized for my gallbladder 3 weeks ago. They did a CT scan. That's how I found out I was pregnant! They told me the same things: it's low risk, but not no risk.
I am glad you don't have a clot in your lung. How scary!
