Layton vs. Leighton for a boy

We love the name Layton for a boy. We are trying to decide if we should spell it Layton or Leighton.

It is pronounced LAY TYNN

With Leighton spelling we are afraid of people saying LEE TON

With Layton spelling we are afraid of people saying LAY TAWN.

Am I overthinking this!? Which spelling do you prefer for a boy?

Leighton appears to be a unisex spelling and Layton seems to be used as solely as a male spelling, so either way I don't think you can go wrong.

Leighton is the only way I have seen it spelled and pronounced the way you want it pronounced. Tjough Layton may be a correct way of spelling, it just looks odd, IMO

Never heard of this name but I think Layton would more reliably get pronounced the way you like and less likely to be taken as a female name

Leigh is "Lee" and that's how I would pronounce Leighton.

Leigh can also be pronounced as "lay", like neighbor, reign, feign. I've also met a Leigh who pronounced her name as '"lee-ah"

Layton seems more boyish to me. Leighton I think of as a girl name personally.

My daughter's name is Leighton Noelle, but I have a friend who named her son Layton Rhett. I think the latter is more masculine, and the former is more commonly used for girls.
