Girl names- is this weird?

My husband and I are having the hardest time deciding on a name for our second little girl.  Our first little girl’s name is Isabella Sophia.  My husband wants to name baby girl #2 Sophia (haven’t figured out a middle name yet). I really like Sophia too, it is a beautiful name. Is it weird that she would share a name with her older sister or is it kind of sweet? The other name I really like is Ava Rose, husband likes it but really really likes Sophia. Let me know what you think…

Re: Girl names- is this weird?

  • George Foreman names all his son's George, so you wouldn't be alone in the naming scheme.

For real though, you should ask yourself how you think both your daughters will feel by having a shared name. Depending on how they get along one or both may feel that their identity has been stolen. On the other hand, they may just find it sweet or funny.

I also think Ava Rose is a great name or Sophie instead of Sophia.

  • It’s a great point about how they may feel and something I’ve thought about! When we’ve talked about the name I told my 4 year old the baby might be named after her. She seems ok with it but prefers Ava.  It’s hard to know how they will feel when they’re older! If we did go with Sophia, I would do a unique middle name so she has at least one name that is her own.
  • I can’t offer much advice but I can say that my husband’s in the same situation. He’s the older brother and his younger brother has his middle name as his first name. It really doesn’t bother either of them and aside from some occasional jokes that they make it’s hardly mentioned. They both seem to not care about sharing a name and it hasn’t ever been a negative thing for them.
  • Both names are nice. With that being said....since Sophia was already used...I'd personally would want to use the other name so you get all the pretty names for your girls. Good luck!
