Decreased fetal movement Question

Question about decreased fetal movement at 37 weeks…

Decreased fetal movement at 37w, cause for concern or normal?

Hello! Baby is head down and engaged and I have an anterior placenta… are these reasons for decreased fetal movement? When I do feel her, it’s very subtle, not the strong kicks and jabs I used to feel. I’ve tried everything today- talking to her, my husband talking to her, playing music, drinking sugary beverage, and poking around my stomach. All of which warranted subtle results, if any.

Trying not to freak out or call my Obgyn unnecessarily and thought I’d ask others first. TIA!

Re: Decreased fetal movement Question

  • There is hardly any where for baby to move.  If the head is engaged, you will definately not feel too much.  W/ DD i felt more if "rolling" feeling at times than anything.

  • Personally, I would get checked out just for peace of mind.

  • I would get checked if it was a drastic change like overnight. But overall it might be okay. I still felt decent movement with my son but I can’t remember exactly. If you’re concerned better be safe & call.
  • From my understanding, it's number of movements, not strength or type. Once the baby is that big and in that position, they can't wind up for big kicks or punches anymore. If the number of movements (time it takes to get to 10) is the same as before, you should be good.

That said, ALWAYS call your doc if you're concerned. You don't want anything bad happening because you were placated by Internet strangers who don't know what they're talking about and aren't invested in your baby.
