3rd Trimester

Upper abdomen pain

I'm just around starting my third trimester, depending on how you count it (27 weeks now), and a few days ago, I started getting some pain in my upper abdomen. I'm not concerned it's anything serious, it feels like skin/muscles stretching or maybe just organs being rearranged. It's high up around my ribs, happens only towards the end of the day (4pm on, depending on how active I've been), and sitting or laying down makes it feel better, standing makes it worse. Any tips on mitigating this pain, other than rest? Would a maternity support belt help pain that is that high up? I had been doing prenatal yoga everyday but haven't had time the past few days, so coincidentally the pain has only happened on days I haven't done yoga (though that can be a coincidence).Β

Re: Upper abdomen pain

  • YES. I had to stop eating big meals because it hurts me so bad in the evenings.Β  Mainly on my left side. I haven't found anything that helps other than laying on the opposite side with a pillow propped up underneath me :(Β

  • I have been having pain on the upper right side of the belly for more than a month. I am month away from due date. Β It started close to the right side ribs and I thought it was muscular at first, now I am not so sure.Β

I dont think the pain is related to food on my case, I am getting very swollen. Kinda worried about pre-eclampsia bc I also have had headaches, today saw sparkling dots after a shower too. But midwife says my blood work is fine and urine analysis doesn’t show protein. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Hopefully all of this means nothing.
  • I've been having upper ab pain and discomfort as well. In my case, tums and gas ex helped. My GI just went for another slowdown. I also picked up some komboucha ( read into it for yourself) and it helped with regular bowels and gas since. I'm currently 30w4d and this is what helped me.Β
Also try to be more mindful of spicy and fatty foods. As tasty as they are, I've learned the hard way they will also at times make you pay later. πŸ™„πŸ˜‘πŸ˜’
I hope this helps and best of luck to you mama!πŸ€°πŸ½πŸ«‚βœŒπŸ½
  • Hmm, I don't think mine is related to food, it really feels like muscle. The longer this goes on, the more I'm suspecting I pulled a muscle or something. It's a strange muscle to pull, but at this point, nothing is in it's right place, so I suppose strange things get pulled?
  • @00kim00 mention it to your OB. It could be nothing, but it's always good to get a medical opinion. I had some upper ab pain and it turns out that's exactly where my baby's leg was. It was just sore from all the kicks.Β
