Pregnant after 35

Getting pregnant was easy

The media is full of stuff telling us how hard it Will be to concieve. I’m 36, we tried once, and I’m now 7 weeks pregnant. I’m not healthy and little bit owerweight, and have history of drinking a lot. Maybe we are getting too much of the ”difficult with age” propaganda?

Re: Getting pregnant was easy

  • I don’t deny the data or value my experience more, and I definitely don’t deny other very real experiences. It just makes me question whether the age thing is emphasized too much. Even this Forum has it’s own are just for convos related to this.
Like I said I also had/have many other things than just age that could/should have hindred fertility, yet didn’t. I think age might not always be as big of a factor as it is presented as.

  • I got pregnant at 42 and it was a surprise and we were using a fertitlity tracker to avoid it. Turns out we are both thrilled regardless. However I don't think this is the norm. Just because we didn't experience it doesn't mean it's not a very real struggle for lots of people. I have few friends who have tried for years and eventually gave up. I don't have any friends my age who accidentally got pregnant without trying. So even just anecdotally I know my experience is a bit unusual for this age.

I agree with @cait32 but you are also correct -- the degree of fertility loss we experience with age alone is over emphasized, particularly for ladies still in their 30s.
