AMA/High Risk Check In w/o 8/22

This is a check in for all the AMA (Advanced Maternal Age-35 years +) and high-risk mamas. We haven’t had one in a few weeks so I thought I’d start a new one since we might have some newer members who go here.

How far along are you?

How old are you?

How are you feeling?

Any issues/concerns?

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now?

Re: AMA/High Risk Check In w/o 8/22

  • How far along are you? 9+2

How old are you? 36 verging on 37

How are you feeling? Like garbage. Tired, nauseated, food and drink aversions, and battling likely bronchitis.

Any issues/concerns? None so far. The OB group was super reassuring that I’m not an old fart. They gave me a BP cuff to take home and I asked if it was because I’m old. They said everyone gets one now so they can do telehealth visits as needed and that made me feel better. 😝

I didn’t really ask if they induce sooner at my age but I may ask next time. I had an induction at 40+4 with my son and had natural labor with my daughter at 38+6/39 (overnight). However, my induction with DS was probably not truly needed…I had a very favorable cervix so labor was probably imminent. We did it more for convenience with my husbands work schedule at the time.

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now?

For the Canadians here (northern US girl here), my favorite band in high school was Our Lady Peace. Now I have been listening to more of a 90’s alternative mix because I’m not fond of most new music. I think rock is mostly dead. 😢

How far along are you? 11.5 weeks

How old are you? 36 (as of yesterday!)

How are you feeling? PM nausea like woah, easily out of breath, generally heightened anxiety

Any issues/concerns? No, just my over-active worry. I meet with my therapist this week and I'm going to ask about upping my dosage of my anxiety meds because I am just way over-worrying about things that aren't actually problems yet.

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now? growing up, NSYNC all day! Now, I listen to a lot of everything. Currently loving Lake Street Dive, Lawrence, and other indie/jam band styles.

  • How far along are you? 12+1

    How old are you? 29

How are you feeling? Better now that my placenta is taking over.

Any issues/concerns? I'm hoping to avoid the high risk visits again this time, but we'll see with my new OB. I have a genetic heart condition that causes me to go into V Tach when my heart rate gets too high (i.e. exercising, stage fright). It caused me to pass out a lot in my teens/young adult years. We didn't find a diagnosis until my sister had a cardiac arrest while driving. She survived, we all got tested, most of us are positive. I got an ICD implanted two summers ago, and this is my 3rd baby while on heart medication, 2nd baby after that surgery. The heart medication can cause low birth weight and early term babies, but the ICD shouldn't cause problems unless I have a c-section (they have to turn it off with a magnet). On my OB paperwork I'm listed as high risk, but I didn't have to visit an MFM my last two pregnancies, so we'll see how this goes.

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now? Pop music wasn't allowed in my strict home growing up, so now I listen to what would have been popular in my teen years like Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, One Republic, and anything my husband sends me. I'm basically music illiterate.

    How old are you? 37

How are you feeling? Nauseated, exhausted, irritable...the usual first tri stuff

    Any issues/concerns? NATM

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now? Hmm, I think I was very into Rascal Flatts when I was a kid. Now I listen to a lot of different stuff.
  • @gravcass I think you do qualify because of age of most of gestation and age at delivery. Join in! We are fun!
  • Yeah! We might be geriatric af, but we still have a good time!

    ::passes out at 8pm::
I’m in this post and I don’t like it!

I went to target today to grab a few things and it was overrun by all these fresh new college kids and I was…annoyed…so annoyed. Like “hey kid get off my grass!” level annoyed.
  • @Wishilivedinflorida 😂 hey, I love going to bed early, so you’re in good company.

Omg we went to IKEA this weekend and all the college kids and their parents were out and it made me feel  so old.

another thing that regularly makes me feel old is that I have SEVERAL members of my team that did not know what Jock Jams were. They were all too young / NOT BORN when they were popular 😭
  • @heytallmama That is….disturbing. I remember having the Jock Jams CASSETTE. 🤣 We were too poor for CD’s at the time.

We have a new nurse in our department who is 28 and the rest of the nurses who are all 45+ keep asking her if she “knows” about various things. They used to do the same thing to me but now I’m an old hag.

How far along are you? Will be 13 weeks tomorrow! We also just found out that we are having a boy!

How old are you? 36 (will be 37 when I’m due)

How are you feeling? Better, more energy but still kind of blah and off. Pretty gassy overall and I have a feeling it’s going to last all pregnancy.

    Any issues/concerns? Natm

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now? This ones always hard because I like a lot of different bands… loved emo music like Brand New in high school and now am a fan of indie. Robyn is a favorite artist to dance to and I’ve been listening to a lot of Magnetic Fields lately.

  • How far along are you? 9 weeks 5 days

    How old are you? 36

How are you feeling? Nauseous all day, worse in the mornings and at night. Throwing up almost every morning and night. When will this be over?

Any issues/concerns? Just nausea right now.

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now? Hmmm. I was a total dork and liked Simon and Garfunkel because my parents had a few of their records that I'd play. I wasn't into the popular bands just because I didn't want to be mainstream, but I did listen to the rock radio station a lot. Sublime, RHCP... Now I listen to a lot of Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind and Fire, plus some funk and blue grass.
  • How far along are you? 9.5 weeks

    How old are you? 36

How are you feeling? Meh. Tired and heartburn are a lot worse in this pregnancy (my 2nd).

Any issues/concerns? My 1st was born w IUGR but no clear indications that will repeat.

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now? Hmmm, so many! I loved the boy/girl bands and then the rise of Brit/Christina. Now I love RHCP, Phoenix, and a mix of others.

  • @firecracker_mama If you don’t mind my asking, what are you getting checked out at the cardiologist? At my midwife today they noted I do have a heart murmur and are checking bloodwork bc of my shortness of breath situation, and mentioned I may need to see a cardiologist (which would be new for me!)— curious what that experience is like/ causes when pregnant?
  • Wow. I'm newer to posting and am so overwhelmed with boards cause I haven't been on them since..... Omg 2006?

How far along are you? 12w2d

    How old are you? 38

How are you feeling? Pretty good for first pregnancy! Gassy and bloated and just feel full so I think that's my body making space. Or the fact that I just can't hold my gut in like I used to all the time anymore so I feel massive!

    Any issues/concerns? NATM.

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band growing up and now?
Now this is a question. Started on boy bands and pop in the mid 90s, by 2001 was into pop rock (weezer, ozma, JEW), then stayed on that track interspersed with classic rock and pop til now (classic rock is anything from zeppelin to moody blues to Fleetwood Mac to Duran Duran). Been really feeling foo fighters lately though. Love them.

I have high blood pressure so my ob wanted me to be seen my cardiology to help manage it. I'll probably have a baseline echo done at some point so if I end up with peri- or post-partum cardiomyopathy, they know what my baseline was. Very overly cautious but I'm ok with that. I am also very fortunate to have amazing insurance so this is the biggest cost during pregnancy at $35.

  • @firecracker_mama thank you for sharing! I hope all is OK and things go smoothly for you. I had to do an EKG back in Jan before my eye surgery so I’ll be super interested on the difference if/when I get one now.

@travellingjess ahhh Foo Fighters! Whelp you have single handedly decided my soundtrack for the morning, thank you!
  • And never made it to the cardiologist. Someone hit skipped me yesterday on my way there 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don't have major injuries and I'm scheduled to see my OB today, she didn't feel I needed extra monitoring at that time. Had to reschedule.

Oh gosh @firecracker_mama I hope you are feeling ok and not too shaken up. Glad there’s nothing major to deal with and hope your OB appointment goes well.
  • @firecracker_mama - Oh wow! Are you doing ok?

I'm ok. Now that things are starting to get done with (slowly) figuring car stuff out, I'm less stressed than before.

  • Hi all! I'm a little late to this post, but didn't see another one for AMA.

How far along are you? 11w2d

    How old are you? 42

How are you feeling? A little bit better overall, but still have nausea, bloating/gas, headaches, and fatigue.

Any issues/concerns? Just worried, overall. I've had two losses, one at 12 weeks last year, and one at 7 weeks in June. I know my risk is lower, now that I've seen baby and heard a heartbeat, but not zero.

GTKY: Who was/is your favorite musical group/artist/band? Probably a toss up between No Doubt and Nirvana. Now Ingid Michaelson is my usual go to.
  • @megelise1980 Welcome! We just don’t post often because there’s not a ton of us.

I actually was going to post here that I’m super nervous about my NT scan tomorrow. I know logically it will likely go well but I feel like the media is sharing every pregnancy horror story right now and it’s not doing well for my psyche. We’ve told a lot of people we are pregnant sooner than other times before (can’t hide it much these days). I know babe is alive (thank you, Doppler), but now I’m worried about genetic abnormalities. Glad to get that off my chest even if nobody reads it.
  • @Wishilivedinflorida I totally get it. I'm about to do my NIPS and am worried about possible abnormalities as well. Statistically I know it's low, and we don't have any family history on either side. Can't help but worry though. I think that's just an indicator of how much love we have as Mama's right from the start. Best of luck to you with your test! 💕
  • Yay the NT thickness and anatomy was normal for 12 weeks! Whew! The OB said he hasn’t ever seen abnormal bloodwork if the NT measurement is normal so I’m happy 😀
