Product Spotlight: Skincare Routine

I stole this from the May2020 BMB I was in.Β

Each week we'll spotlight a new category of product. Feel free to comment on threads like these throughout your time at the board, not just when they're in their week in the spotlight, if you discover something new OR are new to the board. This week it's.... Skincare Routine!

FTMs are encouraged to ask questions & STM/+s encouraged to share their knowledge based on experience. You can use any or all the prompts relevant to you below to share info in an easy-to-read format. Pictures/screen grabs, if put in spoilers, are welcome!

STMs....

What type of products did you find helped with the lovely skin changes throughout pregnancy?Β
This includes face and body!Β
Anything new you are looking into?

FTMs...

Any products you're looking at or have questions about?

I'll post the schedule as a picture, but for future ones I'll learn how to put the link for the doc. Right now it shows my full name and company so if anyone knows how to just share a Google doc without that info please share lol.Β

Feel free to start the next product Spotlight thread, or if there's one that people want to do earlier go for it! It's just nice to have a guideline.

Next up: Pillows/Sleep gear

Re: Product Spotlight: Skincare Routine

  • For myself, I lived off of Om Skincare's Calrity purifying treatment for the breakouts I got.Β

I made my own belly butter that was AMAZING. I already started using it. I just didn't put any essential oils in it yet. I would like to buy new ones. https://www.mamanatural.com/belly-butter-recipe/

Questions: I have some redness on my skin. Has anyone found something that works to even out skin tone?Β
  • Loading the player...
  • I love the Jergens wet skin moisturizer right out of the shower to lock moisture in.Β

Thankfully my skin is pretty breakout free when I’m pregnant, not so much when I’m not. πŸ˜‘ I use Purlisse CC cream to even out my skin tone and it has anti aging properties and sunscreen built in. Because otherwise I don’t have time for a whole regimen.Β
  • I use cetaphil face wash and moisturizer, CeraVe eye cream. I keep it simple. After my first my skin broke out so badly, and simplicity worked best for me.Β

Fun fact: did you know Retinol is a no-no when pregnant? Even topical, apparently.Β
  • @heytallmama I use cetaphil for face wash as well. It’s gentle but cleanses well.Β
  • +1 for cetaphil face wash and moisturizer. I like the Palmers lotion on my belly, boobs and thighs once things start stretching lol.Β
  • @heytallmama Caudalie has a pregnancy safe alternative to Retinol! It's their Resveratrol-lift line. According to them it's better than Retinol but I haven't used it so I have no idea.Β

  • @heytallmama I had just started a real skincare routine a few months before I got pregnant because the last pregnancy and covid took a huge toll on my skin. Of course it included retinol so that's a no go anymore.Β  πŸ˜‘

    Definitely following for recs!Β

  • @nopegoat I had very bad acne growing up and I've done so much research and testing of all of the products so if you have any questions shoot away!Β

Not a topical product, but still good for skin; I took collagen throughout my first pregnancy and I started taking it again. I have no idea if it actually helped but I didn't have too many stretch marks. Which I know have a lot do to with genes but I like to believe the creams and supplements do something to help lol
  • I am big on Aveeno for most purposes. I use their face wash/lotions and baby wash/lotion/eczema creams and they always seem to work for us.Β

If I’m having an eczema flare up though, gold bond eczema cream is my go to.Β
  • I really don't have much of a whole skincare routine but I also don't wear makeup and I've been lucky to have skin that's not prone to breakouts unless it's hormonal. I use Pond's cold cream to wash my face and I love it. It feels very soothing and luxurious and even though I don't wear makeup, it still gets a lot of gunk out of my skin. I use Proactive exfoliating face wash in the shower once a week but I'm honestly just trying to use it up and get it out of my house haha.
    Β
Recently I bought my oldest DD a skincare set from Florence by Mills (because she's obsessed with Millie Bobby Brown). Face wash, toner, and moisturizer. She's been using it for a week and her chronic eczema already looks so much better. Which was a huge surprise to me because we've tried every eczema product on the market and nothing made it better so I was very pleasantly surprised there. I would definitely recommend that line.

  • I alternate Cetaphil and Lush’s Ultrabland because I have severely dry skin even in the summer.Β

I also use Lush’s Scrubee on my body after I wash. It’s honestly the best product I’ve ever used. It’s made with lavender and shea butter, and makes my skin so soft and smooth. I’m going to continue using it through my pregnancy, and hopefully it will help with the belly stretching β€” I’ve heard shea butter is a go to for pregnancy. I’ll keep everyone updated on the results.
  • @lightintothevoid shea butter one of the ingredients in the belly butter I make. Mango butter is the main one, it's also amazing.Β
  • My friend just showed me the Environmental Working Group (EWG) app, which you can use to look at how they rank products based on safety and other factors.Β

I don’t wear makeup or use special hair products really. But I just purchased Attitude’s pregnancy products for shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, and body lotion. On there not pregnancy specific line I bought deodorant, chapstick, tooth paste, cleaning products, dish soap, laundry detergent (Aspen Clean also has good products for cleaning). I bought face lotion and belly products from Evereden. I bought mineral sunscreen from Solara. They all had the highest EWG ratings. Cost me a small fortune but I know most of it will last for a while and I feel confident that everything is as safe for me and my baby as it can be.Β
  • @syfyhiker I love Attitude products, I've been using them for years and their price is pretty reasonable for a non toxic brand. I highly recommend checking out toxinfreetay on IG if you want to learn more. She talks a little about EWG too and has a 50 ingredients to avoid list that's so helpful when I'm looking for products.
  • @miss_lynn9 Thanks! I don’t have any social media accounts but I’ll see what I can find elsewhere.Β
  • I swear by La Roche Posay products. First pregnancy saw lots of acne… they have an Effaclar wash that doesn’t contain the β€œbad” chemicals we aren’t allowed to use in pregnancy. Worked like a charm! Paired this with their Toleraine Double Repair Moisturizer. Currently use LRP Toleraine Gentle Cleanser and working great so far.Β

Honest Company also has great products safe for pregnant skin. I use their eye cream and face masks.Β
  • Does anyone have any insight on the Insta Natural brand? My sister left some face moisturizer from this brand from her visit a while back and it's smells so good. Like a light beeswax.Β

  • @nopegoat Check out the EWG app or website. These are the ones I found on there, but you can click for more info or look up a specific product. Some have Retinol in them so check the ingredients.Β
  • @syfyhiker thank you!Β

  • I just looked up the baby lotion /body wash brand I used and loved for my last two babies and most of their products are ECW certified!

It's the Pipette brand. This fragrance smells divine too!

  • @nopegoat I saw that brand and saved it for when baby is here! Right now I’m using Attitude. They have a pregnancy line that I just switched to. I like the scent too, but my nose was sensitive before pregnancy. I just wish everything was unscented lol. The EWG is amazing and so easy to use. I’ve been recommending it to everyone.Β
