Baby is the size of a(n): hedgehog 🦔

    Team: blue 💙

Upcoming Appointments: 20-week appt this Friday

How are you feeling?: Great! Only complaint is RLS at night

GTKY: I think I’m a good caretaker, which is why I think I’m good at my job. My husband is a good partner, we split things fairly equally. I grew up with a dad who just sat on the couch watching tv while my stepmom did all the cleaning and cooking, even though they both work outside the house full time. I would never stand for that. My husband does most of our cooking, and he does some cleaning and is equal in caring for our kids.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: Jan 31st/ 15w6d

Baby is the size of a(n): jar of Nutella
    Team blue/pink/green: pink
Upcoming Appointments: blood draw today, ob next week
How are you feeling?:  Mostly good, but the growing bump is a bit uncomfortable
    Rants/Raves: it's not 1000 degrees this week!
Questions: did everyone else have a blood draw at 15-18 weeks for neural tube defects? (I just don't remember it from last time)
GTKY: What is your favour quality about yourself? Your partner? My ability to learn new skills quickly and critical thinking skills. (This is a job interview, right?). For my husband I appreciate his supportiveness and ability to remain calm (only our toddler has figured out how to effectively push all of his buttons and make him crack.)

@willrunforcookies at my 16w appt I had the blood drawn for the neural tube test. I remember it from last time bc I remember being surprised by how many blood tests there were at the 12 and 16w appt. It took about a week to get the results back.

@zamoraspin I'm so sorry for the stressful memories associated with the office. It also took my US tech nearly 45 mins to get the NT measurement and it was super stressful. Sending hugs and hoping your AS scan experience is smooth. ❤️

@cc_clark so nice to have unexpected visits from friends!

@footdrbritt I'm sorry the 2nd tri has been rough so far. I had 2 colds during the first tri and they are MISERABLE during pregnancy. Hopefully you hit the 2nd tri sweet spot soon.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 1-14, 18+3

Baby is the size of a(n): as tall as a ballpoint pen, apparently

    Team blue/pink/green: Green

Upcoming Appointments: Sept 1 for AS.

How are you feeling?: I'm feeling pretty good. Finally have announced this pregnancy to (most) people at work and it feels good to not have to try to hide my bump any more.

Rants/Raves: We made it back from our camping trip! It was really ambitious but the kids did great for 90% of it and they had some great adventures. We had a few snags along the way (including a flat tire 30mins into the drive 😆) but overall it was lots of fun. This week is a bit stressful - new daycare for DS and start of Kinder for DD. I think DS did well yesterday but they said in the afternoon he didn't sleep very long and kept asking to go home. Then last night was terrible with him up half the night...I really hope today is a little better.

Questions: Since DS was a baby, the boppy lounger was recalled. Anybody have any alternatives that they'd recommend? (I'll maybe ask this in a product spotlight thread too...)

GTKY: What is your favour quality about yourself? Your partner?

I guess l have the ability to get along well with almost anybody. This has come in handy professionally when working with some difficult personalities. As for DH, he is remarkably calm and cool headed. (Reading other responses this seems to be a common one!)

  • @zamoraspin my kids have been tiny nuggets, but watch this one be a beast 😅
  • @jennifer_louise DS really liked the Podster in the sling style. Something about it was very soothing. A friend gave it to me and said she swore by it.

We also had a Pello pillow, but I didn’t always understand how to position him in it and he didn’t take to it the way he did to the Podster. (They’re also pretty pricey, I got mine second hand at the insistence of a mom friend who found it at a consignment sale). My dog really likes the Pello as a bed, lol.

I suspect the Boppy lounger and all of these have the same issue, they shouldn’t be used for sleep, especially not unobserved sleep.
  • @jennifer_louise and @zamoraspin thanks! I probably just blocked it out as it ran together with all of the other blood draws and the obscene number of appointments I had last time.

@jennifer_louise we probably could have a product spotlight that's just replacements for anything recalled in the last 5 years!
  • @zamoraspin that's hilarious 😆. Look how our Boppy Lounger is being used now! Usually has 2 kitties, but just 1 right now.

We never used the boppy lounger for unobserved sleep, but newborns fall asleep anywhere!! Thanks for the recs. I like the look of the Podster.
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 19 weeks tmo 11/01/2023

Baby is the size of a(n): mango!

Team blue/pink/green: find out next Wednesday

Upcoming Appointments: anatomy scan next Wednesday

How are you feeling?: still very low energy which I am sure is a mix of pregnancy and my sons wakefulness but at least the nausea is gone! I am getting terrible pregnancy acne all of a sudden tho 😡

Rants/Raves: just excited for this doctors appt tmo for my son fingers crossed we actually get somewhere to help him with his sleep

Questions: anyone put their kids in their crib in their own room right off the hop? I know it’s recommended to room share but I had like sever PPA in regards to SIDS and ANY movement or noise woke me up with my first so I have a nanit monitor and their room is literally 3 steps away from mine so I am considering going this route

GTKY: What is your favour quality about yourself? Your partner? I am very good in very stressful situations and have an organization hack for literally anything! My husband is honestly the most emotionally stable person I have even met and can ground anyone around him by just being the cool cucumber that he is!

  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 1/3/23 20 weeks, halfway there! 🎉

Baby is the size of a(n): banana

    Team blue/pink/green: pink

    Upcoming Appointments: 9/8 midwife

How are you feeling?: Definitely feel more pregnant! Bump feels different and I’m starting to feel some hip soreness.

Rants/Raves: I started feeling baby movements and it’s so amazing! Still very sporadic though so I’m looking forward to daily movements soon

    Questions: none

GTKY: DH’s best quality is that he can genuinely make anyone feel really good about even the most trivial things. I think I’ve been able to balance being a go-getter with living a mostly stress-free life really well.

  • @jennifer_louise  awww I feel like a lot of people I know are using their old recalled boppy loungers as pet beds.  I keep meaning to donate ours to the local animal shelter.

My last BMB had a thread for recall discussion, that included talk of alternatives.  We could probably do something similar.  Unfortunately I can’t think of any alternatives to the boppy lounger that would also fall within the general scope of the products being recalled.  The general idea seems to be that since babies are likely to fall asleep in these sorts of baby holders that it is safest for babies to be placed on a flat safe sleep surface.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 18 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): artichoke

    Team blue/pink/green: pink 💕

Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy Scan on September 1

How are you feeling?: Tired and starting to feel huge.   I had a monster nosebleed today, which is honestly such a weird pregnancy symptom.

Rants/Raves: My son keeps wanting me to get down on the floor with him and then two seconds later he’ll want me to get up.  With my emerging pregnancy belly this is becoming increasingly difficult and annoying.

Questions: Anyone have any tips for potty training a stubborn toddler?  My son is 3 and has all the signs of being “ready” but is refusing to even sit on the potty.

GTKY: What is your favour quality about yourself? Your partner? Oh geez, I hate talking about myself like that.  I guess I’d say I’m a pretty empathetic person and a good listener.  My husband is super handy around the house and great at picking up new skills.  He’s also very good about sharing the load around the house.

  • @beccaneu when my son was just learning we got a little urinal, I think it was less intomidating than the potty for pee.
  • @beccaneu can he be bribed?  I have a strong willed one and consistent asking and having the little potty always available helped. We also got a seat with steps that goes on a full sized potty (if you don't have that) which also made it more interesting.
  • @willrunforcookies I’ve tried bribes, and even with high value treats he doesn’t want anything to do with his potty.  We have a small potty and a seat with steps for the full size toilet.  He likes the steps for the toilet seat but won’t sit.  I’ve also tried seeing if he will stand and pee like he sees daddy do, but he’s resistant to that as well.  Normally I’d just wait until he’s showing more interest but he’s supposed to start preschool soon and needs to be potty trained and  I’d hate for him to miss out on that socialization.
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: Jan. 18 / 18w

Baby is the size of a(n): Artichoke

    Team blue/pink/green: Pink

Upcoming Appointments: Big ultrasound in one week!

How are you feeling?: A little less b*tchy this week, but still very much ready for January and a glass of red.

Rants/Raves: I’d been interviewing for a fully remote job, and the last interview didn’t go well. I was given incorrect info about who would be there and what to include in a presentation, and felt sabotaged. This week I got official word that I didn’t get the job, and it was so damn off-putting. Now that summer is almost over, I’m heading back into a 1.5-hour daily commute again and not happy about it.

Questions: Does anyone else get sore hipbones from side sleeping? Whatever side I lay on ends up so sore it wakes me up, and our mattress isn’t the firmest thing in the world so I have no idea how to alleviate the issue. Maybe we’re just officially entering the “aches and pains” phase 🙄

GTKY: What is your favour quality about yourself? Your partner? Myself, it’s my ability to mediate. I’m usually the calm, level negotiator in my family and pregnancy has thrown a whole toolbox full of wrenches in that history. My partner is a fantastic communicator and I’m grateful for that, especially now that I need to communicate more often and more overtly than usual. We’ve officially outlawed the concept of TMI in our house and I don’t miss it!

  • @jesofthenorth sorry to hear the job didn’t go as you’d hoped. It did sound like a very frustrating situation for the last interview. I also have the sore hips when I wake up no matter what. Tried a new mattress topper, pillows under my hip or between my knees…nothing works. Maybe it’s just how it is for now?
  • @beccaneu yeah sometimes it's just they wait until they're ready, and nobody wins a power struggle with a three year old. Mine was three and a few months before not being completely obstinate about it, even at daycare since they were trying daily too.  Have you tried the oh crap me method?

@jesofthenorth sorry about the job, that commute sounds rough.
  • I really need to get better about posting. I'm always one of the last!
    EDD / Weeks + Days: 1/5 20+2! Over halfway!! 🎉😎

Baby is the size of a(n): Beanie Baby

Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy scan Sept. 1st

How are you feeling?: I still don't feel baby move on the regular and it's unnerving. I'm hoping everything is ok in there.

Rants/Raves: Back to school this week and man, some of these parents are rude! I understand it's their first day (Kindergarten or just a new school) but please be considerate of others. If I'm having a conversation with one family, you don't need to interrupt to get your needs met. The entitlement of some people! Ugh.

Questions: Is it normal to not feel pregnant sometimes? Like I slept well last night and woke up well rested with little aches and pains. Might just be a blessing but it's unnerving.

GTKY: What is your favour quality about yourself? Your partner?

I'm very organized and goal oriented. My husband is very savvy with finances and dreams big with a health dose of reality. Together, we make an amazing team.
  • @greenbean88 this is my 3rd viable pregnancy, and I have to say it’s been my easiest and I still don’t really feel pregnant (20w tomorrow). My midwife asked yesterday how I was feeling and I told her I don’t even feel pregnant. I mean, I’m showing a bit, but I’m not uncomfortable yet. My nausea only lasted 4 weeks this time. Also I have an anterior placenta again, so kiddo’s movement aren’t very noticeable or constant yet. Were you told where your placenta is? If it’s anterior that would definitely explain less noticeable movement.
  • No, they didn't say. I figure I don't feel off or wrong and I'm still having a lot of the pregnancy symptoms on top of showing that I think things are ok. I'm really trying not to Google anything because we all know how that rabbit hole works!
  • @greenbean88 also have days I don't feel pregnant, there's a growing bump for sure but I feel more normal and prepregnancy activity and eating has resumed.
