Re: UO Thursday 8/18

  • Canadian healthcare is going to shit despite that it’s portrayed as amazing to the rest of the world

  • @thankfullyamama that sucks to hear. Is it a provincial thing? (Like is it better in other provinces?). My parents have a few Canadian friends who have come to the US for medical procedures and pay OOP (although of course the cost can be exorbitant and is not a good option for the majority of Canadians...).

My UO is that sugar of any kind ruins coffee. The point of coffee is that it's bitter.
  • UO I don’t want to have the baby in our room for the first 6 months-1 year. Babies make a lot of noise even when sleeping and I think I’ll just not be able to sleep making it even worse for everyone.

@thankfullyamama I agree! I’m in Ontario and feel we can’t even get the basics like being able to go to the ER or get a family dr. My mom and sister are both nurses and the fact that their wages are capped at 1% increase is awful. Also the epidural shortage and lack of surgery space is ridiculous.

UO especially now that I’m pregnant, there are way too many foods with onions and garlic included. I’m allergic, and let me tell you, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to buy chicken broth, salad dressing, dip, or any cooking base that isn’t loaded with dehydrated onion or garlic powder, and it’s maddening! All I want is to be able to buy bone broth and not get sick, but someone somewhere decided one cannot make savory foods without alliums. Jerks. 😂

Pregnancy has made this allergy go from a private inconvenience to a public spectacle any time I try to go to a restaurant. Now, even the smell of it sends me running to the john!
  • @cc_clark One inexplicable thing about pregnancy is how people seem to forget what is appropriate human behavior. Would you touch my stomach if I wasn't pregnant? Would you comment on my weight gain if I wasn't? Drives me nuts!

@jesofthenorth you're allergic to garlic and onions??

I can imagine that eating out is a nightmare! But also, sautéed garlic, onion and pepper is a staple of our diet. That must be rough.
  • @jennifer_louise I think it’s an all over Canada thing but Ontario has been hit pretty hard

@anniez85 as a nurse I also feel your sister and moms pain with the current wage cap, nursing shortage and awful conditions to work in lol! As for baby in the room, I am going to attempt to put this one in their crib in their own room right off the hop, I had a weird PPA with my son where like every noise and movement he made woke me up and and if he DIDNT then I woke up panicking something was wrong … so I am going to try and avoid that this time lol but the baby’s room is literally three steps away from my bed to theirs!

@je@jesofthenorth ok that sounds like the most Inconvenient allergy EVER

@cc@cc_clark I am very much a don’t touch me person and find it very rude too. As for breastfeeding I also found I was just praised by EBF BUT it was like a 360 the moment my son turned 1 year and all of a sudden people were like ohhh are you going to wean soon? So double edged sword lol

  • @jesofthenorth what an awful allergy!  I'm sorry.

@cc_clark somehow seeing pregnant people makes others' filters and general social niceties go out the window.  Shut them down.
