It's been so long on the baby toys but the little einsteins musical turtle and take and go little music player have both been played with for 9 years even though my youngest is 4. We don't do any screens before 3 but we do a lot of loud musical dancing things like beatbo which is a little ball that rumbles and rolls around. I personally don't mind loud obnoxious toys. The scout and violet soft animals that you can program are huge huge hits in this house. My kids *still* use them. Obviously if you don't like loud obnoxious things or want the aesthetically pleasing wood toys then these aren't for you. We also have a ton of mega blocks and the zany zoo by B. Toys. That's another one we've used through all our kids and they still love it. Books...how do you pick favorites ... I don't like a lot of the classics. This stems from a decade of nannying and having to read books like "I'll love you forever" over and over and over. I don't particularly like most Dr. Suess books except the Lorax. My absolute favorite children's books are Room on The Broom and The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. We've read these books literally hundreds of times and we never get tired of them. We have thousands of books in our house so it's really hard to pick. Little Blue Truck is amazing. I like all the books in the series. Bear books my Karma Wilson are an absolute favorite. Llama llama books are big hits here. I'm blanking on a lot of them because I currently read chapter books with my four year old and my older two read their own books. My middle child loves Beatrix Potter. I'm not a huge fan but she really likes it.
For books, we really love Sandra Boynton board books, especially Belly Button Book, and we're gifted several board books by Roy Henry Vickers. They feature West Coast Indigenous art and are really beautiful and high contrast so DS was drawn to them really early on. He also loves Day Dreamers and Dream Animals by Emily Winfield Martin, Guess How Much I Love You, Feminist Baby, and Ten Little Fingers, Ten Little Toes.
