  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 13w6d

Baby is the size of a(n): can of tuna

    Team blue/pink/green: tbd

    Upcoming Appointments: in 3 weeks

How are you feeling?: Much better!

Rants/Raves: rave: just got back from a much needed vacation

    Questions: natm

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story? I was using the book Grey's Anatomy as a reference book, and one of my roommates saw just the title and said "oh, I didn't know the show was based on a book" she was a biology major (huge face palm).

Baby is the size of a(n): naval orange

    Team blue/pink/green: pink

    Upcoming Appointments: AS august 30th

How are you feeling?: it comes in waves, I feel better then I don’t, but I definitely have a bit more energy

Rants/Raves: I had a really weird experience with the lab tech at my appointment last week—after my appointment she kept calling me and texted me from her personal cell number (let me count the ways this violates HIPPA) wanting me to come back in and redraw, saying she would drive to my house—I was totally weirded out and didn’t answer. I got a call from the office Friday asking me to come tomorrow for a redraw because the tech submitted my orders but not the blood

While I assume her intentions were good, it is completely in violation of privacy laws and creepy AF.

    Questions: nope

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story?

Maybe I’m aging myself but does anyone remember the Dell commercial where the 2 roommates show up and one is all pink and glitter and the other is goth…

That was me and my first roommate in college. It didn’t work out 😂

  • Sorry I've been a bit absent with work and travel. Still lurking and trying to post when I can!

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 1.15.23 / 16+1

Baby is the size of a(n): Avocado!

    Team blue/pink/green: Green

Upcoming Appointments: AS on 8/23 (unless I can get it moved to 8/19, depending on when my daughter's first day of Kindergarten is)

How are you feeling?: Great! Food is appealing again--always a plus. Finally feeling more attached to this baby (which is scary but happy).

Rants/Raves: I can't believe it's August already. I'm panicking about the start of the school year--teaching two courses, including a new-to-me course with about 220 students enrolled :# I really need to start prepping! My kid's behavior has been really erratic lately, but one of the hardest things/biggest fights has been getting her out the door in the morning. She suddenly HATES preschool. But the rave is that this is her last week and she is so thrilled! Then she'll have two weeks at home before K starts. Which means I REALLY need to start prepping for the school year (sigh...).

Questions: I don't think so, unless anyone is an expert on paint colors and wants to help pick one for our combined nursery + guest room ;)

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story? My college roommate and I used to throw themed parties, and one of them was the "Pants Party" (a la Anchorman). No pants were allowed :D  It sounds a LOT more scandalous than it actually was (lots of boy shorts/boxers, we were all nerds), but still fun to laugh about.

  • It wouldn't let me tag in my post, so I'm trying here instead!

@willrunforcookies omg that roommate comment made me snort :D
@thankfullyamama I'm sorry you've been so sick! What a bummer. I keep thinking I feel little movements, but I'm not sure...
@footdrbritt what a strange interaction! Do you think she was worried about her job if she made some kind of mistake? Or is she like...stealing blood??? Also, the world needs to know: were you the pink roommate or the goth one?
  • @L1C4gal right?! It was weird and I mentioned it to the office manager becuase I was kind of creeped out.
And the pink one of course, I was in a very Elle woods/legally blonde stage of my life 😂
I think now black would definitely be more my aesthetic
  • @footdrbritt that sounds much like my first college roommate and me, she and her friends all wore black trench coats, didn't shower based on the smell, and stayed up until 4am every night playing D&D; I joined a sorority and that was cause for her to stop talking to me.
  • @willrunforcookies where did ya go for your vacation?! I’m planning to go on a big trip with some of my surrogacy money, I’m thinking Italy and Greece.

@thankfullyamama I think I’ve felt some subtle movement, but I’m pretty sure I have an anterior placenta.

@footdrbritt that seems super shady. I would contact someone about it. Might not be a HIPAA violation, but still inappropriate.

@L1C4gal glad food is appealing again!

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 1.8 / 17w1d

Baby is the size of a(n): game console controller 🎮

    Team: blue 💙

Upcoming Appointments: Anatomy scan 8/10. So excited my IFs will be here for it! I met one in-person for transfer, but now I get to see both in-person!

How are you feeling?: Really good, quite normal. Occasionally tachy and out of breath.

Rants/Raves: I’m so sick of being understaffed at work. Be kind to your medical staff, y’all 😩

GTKY: My roommate moved out to live with her bf, and some random guy sublet from her. Our house occasionally smelled of pot. One day I came home and the house was TRASHED, and some of my food/beverages were consumed. I confronted him. He left me a note apologizing and $100 cash “for my troubles.” I am relatively sure I lived with a drug dealer for a semester 😅

  • @daffodil_shoe an extra long weekend in the Poconos on a lake! Our second of four lake/ocean trips for the summer.
Italy and Greece would be amazing! I've done Italy but not Greece. Would you go with or without kids?
  • @cc_clark that's a different kind of bump buddy to have, I'm sorry things might not be how you anticipated them to be.  Hopefully they will still have a good grandfather/grandkid relationship, and your kid will have a built in same aged friend/aunt or uncle.
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 1-22-2023/15w 1d

Baby is the size of a(n): eggo waffle

    Team blue/pink/green: blue

    Upcoming Appointments: Aug 15th

How are you feeling?: this pregnancy has been so different than my first (had a girl with the first) but I just have no energy and I have found myself procrastinating things a lot, especially schoolwork.

Rants/Raves: I asked for recommendations on breast pumps because I did formula with my first but with everything going on I wanted to try to BF this time. I now have 15 different recommendations from 15 different people.😅

Questions: what do you prefer to drink to stay hydrated? My go to was body armor but it's been too sweet for me lately and water makes me nauseous.
  • @willrunforcookies oh absolutely without kids! I want total relaxation, not parenting in another country 😆
  • EDD / Weeks + Days: Jan 23/ 15 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): navel orange

    Team blue/pink/green: blue

Upcoming Appointments: midwife Aug 25 and Anatomy scan sept 2

How are you feeling?: still tired and getting uncomfortable but hoping it’s just me working really hard and not the pregnancies fault

Rants/Raves: Rant I feel like my bump is already massive. I’m well into maternity clothes and can’t wear anything non stretchy. I’m also on my third set of bras! Not a cheap pregnancy :)

Questions: I started out in the “obese” category and have only gained about 3lbs so far. Chatted with my midwife about weight recommendations and she just said as long as I’m eating a healthy diet I’m good. Not super helpful! I’ve been reading articles which say 11-25lbs is healthy. Anyone in the same boat?

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story?

I was lucky to not have any roommates as I lived at home for school and now live with my husband who has his own quirks lol.

@thankfullyamama I'm so sorry for all the sickness but props to YH for still making it special! Hope everyone is back to normal shortly.

That's definitely a weird lab experience @footdrbritt. I'm trying (and failing) to think of a rational explanation for that behavior, but, yikes. Unprofessional at the very very least.

@L1C4gal I love the pants party idea. We did so many goofy parties like that in college too (nerdy scene over here too). I would have loved that!

@cc_clark wow, that's a lot to process with your Dad. That while situation sounds a bit stressful and awkward, and I'm sorry you're dealing with it right now.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 1/14, 16+2

Baby is the size of a(n): height of a small coffee

    Team blue/pink/green: Green

Upcoming Appointments: Thursday! The 16w appt is usually pretty boring, right? But at least they'll doppler the baby IIRC.

How are you feeling?: starting to feel a bit self conscious about my body. I don't look pregnant in many outfits, just extra puffy around the middle. Looking forward to having a pronounced bump. But otherwise, feeling good overall!

Rants/Raves: Headed on vacation next week! 😎 Roadtripping and camping, wish me luck. Rant: Work is super hectic this week trying to fit everything in before I leave.

    Questions: NATM

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story?
Omg I have had so many ridiculous/hilarious/awkward roommates and reading through these answers made me giggle. I'll stick to two stories: 1) I lived with my college besties in a big old house our senior year. One of my roommates and I were sitting on our giant beanbag (100% sober) and laughing hysterically about something, all of a sudden I realized she had peed all over it from laughing too hard. It was disgusting but so funny. 2) I had two roommates in grad school. One was a stoner and into partying/music. One day, me and the other, more straight laced roommate came home to find what looked like homemade chocolate truffles in the fridge. We were going to try one until we noticed a post it that said "Do not eat unless you want to trip =') ". We couldn't help but laugh because we had almost unknowingly made a terrible mistake 😆.
  • @jessicadmillard I’ve been drinking vitamin water to stay hydrated when I get sick of water. Still has quite a bit of sugar in it but I don’t find it as sweet. The other option is Tazo passion fruit tea concentrate by Starbucks which I found at Walmart. I add it to my water and makes things better.

@jessicadmillard everyone has preferences for pumps so don’t get overwhelmed! I’ve tried a bunch, and the most popular are the Medela Pump in Style or Spectra series. For reference I have tried the Medela pump in style, medela sonata, spectra s2, and willow.

The spectra does well for the majority of people and was my absolute favorite pump—I feel like it’s one the most popular for a reason. It’s the one I would recommend for overall best pump
  • @jessicadmillard I second what @footdrbritt said above! Everyone’s nipples and breasts are so different so pumps will feel different for everyone. I actually own 4 as I couldn’t find what worked for me until I just tried a few out lol but I also recommend a spectra and or medela. If you are in the bigger breast category I found the medela comfort shields worked best for my 34GGs lol if you’re average sized the spectra is a fav for a reason!!
  • Thank you everyone for you get better wishes! I am finally on the mend and my toddler seems much better today as well but still getting his ears checked out later! Unfortunately my husband has now come down with this ravaging virus lol

@footdrbritt okay yeah that is SUPER unprofessional. I get she made a mistake and was likely trying to back pedal for fear of repercussions but also as a healthcare professional it’s your job to own up to your mistakes and learn from them. So def should have reported her error to her supervisor and let them figure out what to do

@L1C4gal I went with Benjamin Moore gray owl for both my kids rooms because I figured it was nice and calming and I could decorate with whatever I wanted and not have to re paint the wells every couple years lmao

@cc_clark I’m so sorry you’re mourning the loss of the relationship you had hoped for your child and your father. Fingers crossed it just turns into something unexpectedly beautiful and your child simply feels like they are surrounded by more family that loves them in the end!

@daffodil_shoe I know I have an anterior placenta but I’m definitely feeling baby, and a lot more/ sooner than with my son which is weird because I had a posterior placenta with him!

@anniezz85 I am also well into maternity clothes so don’t feel alone lmao 🤣 don’t stress too much on weight unless you are gaining like crazy. We all gain and show differently’ long as you’re being as healthy as you can that’s all you can do!

  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 16w/0d

Baby is the size of a(n):Chipmunk

    Team blue/pink/green: pink 💕

    Upcoming Appointments: August 10

How are you feeling?: Mostly good pregnancy wise,  I’m starting to show a lot more and have had to make the switch to maternity or at least oversized clothes.

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story? Not really funny, but one of my college roommates stole my credit card and used it to make a ton of online purchases. Apparently she didn’t think I would notice that all the fraudulent purchases lined up with things that she was getting delivered to our dorm.

  • EDD / Weeks + Days: 17 weeks, Jan 10

Baby is the size of a(n): Pomegranate

    Team blue/pink/green: Pink

Upcoming Appointments: Nothing for 4 weeks.  Will have my OB and MFM appts then.

How are you feeling?: We had two good appts last week.  Passed my early GD test, AFP came back normal, and early anatomy scan looked good.  So trying to just take it a day at at time and remind myself I have no reason to believe anything is wrong.

Rants/Raves: We finally agreed on a first and middle name.  I thought we would never agree!

    Questions: Nothing right now

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story? I can't think of any....I haven't really had many roommates in my life.

    EDD / Weeks + Days: 1/3/23 18 weeks

Baby is the size of a(n): artichoke

    Team blue/pink/green: pink

    Upcoming Appointments: AS on 8/8

How are you feeling?: I’ve officially gotten sick more times in the second trimester than the first! We traveled this past weekend and I threw up on the plane and after breakfast one day. Thankfully, I felt better afterwards and it didn’t linger. Anxiety has increased for some reason not knowing how baby is doing in there. I have a feeling it’s because I may start feeling movements any moment now but still haven’t. Really excited for AS next week

Rants/Raves: I’m in a gloomy mood so two rants. 1) I was really excited about being pregnant at the same time as my friend but she hasn’t been as engaged as me. I texted her a cool article and she didn’t even respond! It’s a bit of a bummer. 2) The midwife program has an awesome group for pregnant moms that is coupled with the individual check-ups. However, because of COVID partners can’t even attend the individual portion so DH won’t get to hear baby’s heartbeat as he would if I didn’t join this group. I’m considering getting a Doppler so he can still hear it.

Questions: Cab quickening feel painful? Not intense pain but like quick jabs. I’ve experienced that these last few days, mostly on the right side of my uterus.

GTKY: What is your weirdest/funniest roommate story? My friends and I needed a 4th roommate in college and were randomly assigned one. She didn’t interact with us at all and rumor had it she was a dominatrix… luckily she got the single bedroom.

    Edited to add question.

  • edited August 2022
@r_kenn99 sorry your friend isn't exactly reciprocating your excitement. Is it possible she has something else going on? For my 2nd pregnancy I avoided lots of outward signs of excitement due to my history of infertility. It was sort of a defense mechanism. Although possibly it's still just sinking in for your friend and she'll be more engaged once you're further along.

Also, I can definitely think of some baby jabs/kicks as painful a bit later in the pregnancy but I haven't felt anything uncomfortable yet, I assume just because baby is still so small. Could be normal though (or else just your body adjusting/expanding). Maybe worth a question to your doc next time you're there!
  • @jesofthenorth sorry if I missed something earlier, why are you having an amnio done?
  • @jesofthenorth How are you feeling?: Moody. Extremely moody. If anyone else tells me “PrEgnAncY is so BeaUtiFuL” I will punch them in the throat.”
OMG Felt that!! 😂 the end result is worth it but this is not a good time.
Hope all goes well with the amino. Also have plenty of tattoos, it’s just not the same kind of needle and understandably more concerning.

@thankfullyamama @jennifer_louise @willrunforcookies thank you all. I’m really trying to see a silver lining & not let my disappointment steal my joy over our first little boy on the way.
I hope all the illness eases up for you and your son @thankfullyamama

@anniez85 I also am technically “obese” and initially lost about 10 lbs from nausea. Still haven’t gained much back, not even at my pre-pregnancy weight but Dr says all is totally fine. I think it’s typical for overweight pregnancies to gain less?
  • @r_kenn99 I’m sorry you’re not having the bump buddy you had hoped for!! If your friend a second time mama? I find I am way less engaged this pregnancy because I’m too busy running after my toddler lol as far as the sharp pains you are feeling it is likely related to round ligament pain rather than quickening! Quickening/ first fetal movement can feel like gas bubbles or like when you’re on a roller coaster ride and you go over a big hill but the pain is usually your muscles and ligaments stretching! Until 3rd trimester when baby takes up a lot more room. Then they can definitely hurt too lol

@jesofthenorth to second @daffodil_shoe why have you opted for the amino?
  • @thankfullyamama @daffodil_shoe my OB strongly recommended it due to some risk factors on both my side and DH’s side. I may still back out, but at the same time I want to know ALL OF THE THINGS, you know?
  • @thankfullyamama @jennifer_louise it’s her first pregnancy,
no past issues with fertility, and she even made a social media announcement so I know she’s excited about it. I decided to reach out instead of being spiteful and not engaging in return and so far so good. :)

Also, thanks for the feedback on my quickening question! I think I’m so desperate for movement that I’m misinterpreting round ligament. It’ll come soon enough!
  • @anniez85 I’m also in the obese category. I didn’t gain at all first trimester and at my 16 week appmt I was up just under 1 lb. Midwife said baby doesn’t weigh much right now so it’s ok to not be gaining much weight yet.
  • @r_kenn99 good for you for bring the bigger person!!!

@jesofthenorth ahh I see! We don’t do amino’s unless something was caught on ultrasound or blood work or there is a genetic disposition where I live so they are super rare! Good luck with yours!

@nuggetsmama ah that is so scary to make a job move while pregnant! I started my new job as a community nurse In May, found out I was pregnant in May and am already on modified duty due to my ongoing respiratory illnesses so I feel awful because I’m not even out if my probation until September! As for registry I’m just so thankful I don’t have to do one this time lol it was stressful for me last time
  • @nuggetsmama that's a very valid rant, fingers crossed that you get the closer job!!  For the registry I tried focusing on what would be most useful, space efficient, and would actually get used despite knowing almost nothing about babies at the time. I found the Amazon registry guide very helpful along with babylist (even if you aren't using them for your registry).
  • @nuggetsmama I used the Babylist questionnaire and it added a bunch of things to my registry that babies usually need. Then I went back as different topics came up and replaced some items with better quality ones. The Product Spotlight has been super helpful for this! It helps me stay on track every week.
