Re: Fit Mom Friday 7/15

  • Still super thankful to still be able to be working out pretty regularly this pregnancy, compared to my other pregnancies!

My other pregnancies, I honestly couldn’t push through the exhaustion/nausea first tri (but I worked retail management first two pregnancies, had super long days with my commute and working in an office with my third so was also dead tired by the end of the work day - this time I work from home and can workout on my lunch break), but I’ve been working out pretty regularly (cycling classes about 3x per week and lifting 3x per week), and just listening to my body with intensity and length of workout. This past week (11 w tomorrow), I’m back to pretty normal workout intensity and length, as my nausea has subsided, but I do have to have more restful rest (like just sitting my butt on the couch or sitting down outside while my kids play) on rest days (and in general, really).

@runningyogimama I’m so glad there’s a light at the end of the nausea tunnel- I’m really looking forward to being somewhat back to normal ❤️

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): I really want to keep up with my yoga/meditation and some cardio throughout this whole pregnancy. It’s hard when I don’t feel my best, but I think this will pass pretty soon.

Week's Successes: I got a few yoga practices in this week when I didn’t feel too sick, usually before my toddler woke up. Meditating and just relaxing post-yoga has been a really good thing to calm my pregnancy nausea and anxiety, too.

Week's Challenges: Some days the nausea has just been too much to complete my workout, but I feel good that I at least tried!

Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): I want to keep playing tennis for as long as I can - then I know I will have some level of fitness even if I don't hit the gym a lot!

Week's Successes: Very few. I've been on holiday (1st week out of 3) and have done next to nothing. My Garmin watch says 6 intensity minutes, I aim for 250 at least and will ofte be close to 500. But I AM going swimming in the morning and played padel for an hour today.

Week's Challenges: Holiday - out of my regular habits, and I can't get myself out running when I don't feel up to par.

Tennis! So much! No matter how poorly I feel, I can always get myself down to the courts for an hour or two. The fact that I am nearly always wanting to play is my rescue, because otherwise I'd have the laziest pregnancy ever seen 😀  The downside is that it's hard to keep my pregnancy secret when I've been sick between games before, so I reckon they have guessed it by now 😀
  • Health/Fitness Goal (and why, if you want to share): I hope to be able to continue to stay active in the activities I love throughout my pregnancy, both for my physical health and for my mental health. It will definitely be harder when I'm back to school in September but maybe I'll have more energy by then.

Week's Successes: my doctor said that I can continue to mountain bike as long as I don't have increased symptoms. I haven't experienced any nausea yet so was able to get out for 2 mountain bike rides, 2 gravel rides, and a paddle board. Oh and 2 slow flow deep stretch yoga classes! It sure helps that I'm on summer break (teacher) so my sport is my main daily activity and I can nap afterwards

Week's Challenges: it has been very hot, and I'm struggling. I've opted out of rides and cut some short due to the temperature and feeling extra breathless and exhausted

GTKY: What’s your favorite type of workout when you’re battling first trimester nausea and exhaustion? Love a solo gravel bike ride through the forest early in the morning before it gets too hot
